Card: Ace of Swords (R)
Quick Analysis: One of the general interpretations of any Swords card in the tarot deck is the matter of communication. Truthful communication. Brutal honesty. Not being afraid of speaking our truth and further, not being afraid to stand firm and tall in our truth. When the Swords cards are in the Reversed position, based on the communication interpretation of the card, it can mean we have a hard time speaking our truth. The truth gets caught in our throat. Or we have a hard time living our truth. We ignore that part of ourselves that would lead us to more authentic lives. We pretend we’re something we’re not. We put on a happy smile and pretend everything is well when secretly we detest the life we’re leading.
When the Ace of Swords comes up Reversed in a reading it means that truth we’ve been hiding or the truth we’ve refused to speak is trying its best to come out. It’s trying to be spoken, heard and lived. We may have found lately it’s getting harder and harder to “go along to get along”. We may have found ourselves in more and more situations where what’s happening around us and what we’re required to do to keep the peace in those scenarios butts against who we really are. These kinds of situations where we have tamped down our true and authentic selves are presenting themselves to us repeatedly.
Usually when that happens the Universe is trying to get our attention. The Universe is trying to tell us the time has come for us to allow ourselves to be true and authentic. The Universe is telling us the time for speaking our truths is now. The time for standing firm and tall in our truths is now. Because the longer we choose to ignore that still small voice of truth inside of us, the louder it will scream for release, until that release will either become mandatory or we’ll forcibly allow a part of our soul to wither and die.
So, the question becomes if we choose to live an authentic life, is there a possibility the life we’ve grown accustomed to will change? Sure. There’s always that possibility. There’s the possibility friends and family won’t understand. Our loved ones may turn on us. Our careers could suffer. There’s a chance we may lose the things that are dear to us. The absolute worst things we can think of could very well happen to us.
Or not.
Then the question becomes will we take that chance? Will we take the chance everything will fall apart if we speak our truth? Will we take the chance our world will turn upside down of we live our truth? Is living our truth worth the price?There’s an old Bible verse that says, “What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and lose his own soul?” Our souls are the most important part of our beings. We must always be mindful to take the best care of our souls we possibly can. We are spirits living a human experience. Because of that our spirits live on after our human bodies turn to dust. Our soul’s purpose is the grow, evolve and aid and assist the growth and evolution of the planet and thereby the Universe. If we refuse, we’ve wasted our time here on Earth. We’ve just taken up valuable space for however long we’re granted here. And the catch is, until we decide to allow our spirit to grow and evolve we’ll continue to live the same scenario over and over again.
I encourage us all to make the best use of our time on this planet. I encourage us to speak our truth. Stand tall and firm in our truth. Allow our truth to grow and evolve as more truth is revealed to us. Live our truth, because words without action are meaningless. Finally, be our truth. Let us all strive to be the living embodiment of living a life of integrity.
In-Depth Analysis: In our in-depth analysis today, I want to talk about control issues. Both sides of the control issue. The need to always be in control as well as the fear of never being in control and allowing others to have control over us. Both issues are equally as damaging to our psyche as well as our soul. It’s important to recognize if we have either of those issues (or a combination of both) and take good and positive steps to fix them. Let’s dive in!
We’ll start with loss of control. The feeling we are never in control of our own lives and our own destinies. We allow people, places and circumstances dictate how we move, without having a strong grounded center inside us.
There are some of us who have never found our voice. For one reason or another our voice was dismissed early on and we carried that lesson with us into our adult lives. One of the worst things we as “big people” can do to a child is let them believe their opinion, their voice, doesn’t matter. The old parenting style of “kids should be seen and not heard”, in my opinion is no longer a viable parenting style. It cuts off our kids’ spiritual vocal cords. Worse, it can lead some of us to believe we shouldn’t be heard at all, regardless of our age.
Growing up, I had yin-yang parents. My father thought his job ended after he brought home a paycheck. “Are the kids fed? Good. Do they have clothes on their back? Great. Are the bills paid so they can keep a roof over their heads? Perfect! Job done. Clocking out!” And he did. There was never room in his life for children except for taking care of their physical needs. He could care less about our voices and would rather we have kept quiet when he was around.
My mother on the other hand was always interested in our voices. She loved having deep conversations with us kids, regardless of our ages. She would ask questions and listen to the feedback we provided. She was interested in how our lives were progressing and took an active part in making sure we were listened to and our thoughts and opinions taken into consideration.
Because I had that yin-yang parenting dynamic going on around me, I never knew in the outside world if I had a voice or if I didn’t. I was always testing the waters to see how much “big people” would actually listen to me. When they did, they couldn’t shake me. I was like a talking faucet that couldn’t be turned off. But when they didn’t listen, I immediately shut down and didn’t say a word.
That dynamic of never knowing whether a situation would be amicable to my voice or not carried over into my young adult life. When I was just starting out as an adult and trying to figure out “adulting” for the first time, more often than not I would be quiet. In the workforce there were always “big people” around who had way more experience and way more expertise than I did. I always got the impression, real or imagined, that my voice was not nearly as important as the next person because I was just starting out and they’d been there forever and knew how things “worked”. Add to that, my line of work was always production driven cubicle work which doesn’t lend itself to creativity at all, my voice really was not required. I never fully shut down because there were times I would assert myself and see positive results. But there were plenty more times when I said nothing for fear of being dismissed.
It’s only been in the last 6 or 7 years now that I have leaned into my voice and taken more control over how my life plays out rather than having other people, places, things and circumstances dictate that for me. And what a difference that has made! I may not always get it right, but at the end of the day I can truthfully say “This is my life. And I’m living it on my terms, for the most part.” (More on that a little later.)
On the other side of that coin is the control freak. The person who must retain complete control in all situations. The person who not only asserts control over his or her life, but the lives of everyone around them. Believe it or not, I had a little bit of that inside me as well.
I learned early on I couldn’t control other people. People are going to do what they’re going to do and there’s not a damned thing you can do about it. But I could control myself.I graduated from college at the age of 22 and I had my life all mapped out. I had a plan.
Cut to the present. I make part of my living as a psychic. I write psychic forecast/self-help/advice columns once a week. I have a deep interest in metaphysics. Spirituality, not religion, is one of the most paramount things in my life. Had you told me at 25 when I was singing “Lucky Star” in NYC subways trying to make rent I would someday be all the things I am today, I would have punched you in the face. I was gonna be a star, baby! I was gonna have hit after hit. I was gonna snatch Grammys every time an album dropped. I was gonna go back to my Broadway roots from time to time and do a show just to remind people I’m not just a pop star, I’m a fucking musician! (I was gonna snatch a Tony or two in the process too!) My life turned out completely different than I expected it would. And for the most part that’s okay.
I learned long ago that while we do have control over our lives and our destinies, we also have a job to do while we’re here. We’re not here just to take up valuable space. As I said above, we should do our best to aid in the spiritual evolution not only of ourselves but of the planet as well. That is our primary objective for being alive. I chose to listen to spirit when spirit spoke to me. And truth be told, my life has been so much more interesting since I ceded control of my primary directive to the Universe.
Bottom Line: The Ace of Swords is advising us this week to speak, stand tall in, live and be our truth. But it’s also advising us to know what we truly have control over and what we don’t. We are in control of our lives. We’re not in control of anyone else’s. Further, we have control over the quality of life we have but we also have a prime directive for being here. Something we and the Universe agreed upon long before we slid down the rainbow bridge. So regardless of anything else, we must accomplish our prime directive. I encourage each of us to make sure the way we’re living our lives is in concert with our prime directive. The way things turn out may not be the way we anticipated they would, but what a ride! Card: Six of Pentacles, Reversed
Quick Analysis: Be careful you’re not being taken advantage of. When the Six of Pentacles comes up in the reversed position in a reading it very often means the client is giving so much and not getting anything in return for his or her good favor. And while one should never give with the intention of getting in return (giving should be its own reward), one should not give to the point of emptying ones self out.
Which brings us back to the first sentence. Be careful you’re not being taken advantage of. There is someone reading this today who is being taken advantage of. There is someone out there reading this who gives and gives and gives and gets nothing in return. In fact, it’s gotten so bad the people on the receiving end of your giving have come to expect nothing less from you but to give. They expect when something needs to be done, you’ll step in. They expect when there’s a family crisis, you’ll fix it. They expect when someone is down on their luck you will support them financially. They’ve grown accustomed to calling you at all hours of the day or night needing a shoulder to cry on and expect you will be that strength in their times of trouble. They may be taking advantage of you.
If this is your reality right now, please know you have a choice to change the way things are. The truth is people can take care of themselves. It may not seem like it, but given the choice between taking care of business and everything falling apart, most people will choose to work things out on their own. And unless there are extenuating circumstances that prevent a person from figuring it out (i.e., mental health and wellness issues or mental or physical disabilities), there’s no need for you to step in and like Superman save the day. People will figure it out, believe me they will. It’s called “adulting”. And while it may not be the most fun you’ll have all day, it is something most people over the age of 18 will have to do.
In-Depth Analysis: I really do think this week’s card is about interpersonal relationships in a family. I really feel strongly this card was meant to be pulled and discussed this week because there is someone out there who lately is feeling taken advantage of. So we’ll be focusing in on how this card affects family dynamics. It’s time to take your position because the show is about to begin!
In a family, each member has their specific role to play. Caregiver. Provider. Confidant. Partner in crime. Good girl. Bad boy. Ace student. Ace athlete. Helicopter parent. Absent parent. Cool parent. Strict parent. Tattle-tale. Funny one. Serious one. Shy and reserved one. Life of the party. Understanding. Judgmental. When you think of character traits and the members of your family, I can almost guarantee you can put those character traits on some or all of them. Each family member has a role to play and they all play them particularly well, including you.
For the purposes of this week’s reading we’ll be using “that person” to describe you. Please understand there is no judgment within this reading. You are who you are. It’s a fact. There are no emotions attached to it. It just is. Like the color of your eyes, it just is.
And let me be clear here: Sometimes it’s not even about malicious intent. Odds are they’re not out to get you or to make your life miserable. They’ve just become so accustomed to you going out of your way to be the “fix-it” person, they don’t even realize that expectation is wearing you down. They have no idea. They just figure since you’ve always been “that person” you always will be “that person”. So they play the role they’re used to playing.
And so do you, btw. Yes, you have a powerful role in all of this as well. For whatever reason you’ve decided it’s up to you to fix whatever is broken in your interpersonal relationships. It may have started off small. It may have been something easily fixed, and so without giving it a second thought you fixed it. Then something else came up and again without blinking you fixed it again. And again. And again. And before you know it you’ve become “that person” that fixes everything, whether you like it or not.
The hard lesson here may be that through choices you made, over time you became “that person”.
Bottom Line: Be careful you’re not emptying yourself out and not getting what you need to refill your cup. It’s not up to you to save the world, or even save other grown people. They made it to adulthood, they will surely survive without your help. Make sure your kindness and generosity aren’t mistaken for weakness. While it is true giving should be its own reward, make sure you’re not giving out of a sense of obligation rather than a sense of doing it because it’s the right and natural thing to do. You can thank me later.

Card: The Emperor
Quick Analysis: It’s interesting The Emperor is this week’s card. The last card we looked at before the Memorial Day Weekend break was The Empress. Whenever cards featuring women come up (especially in the Major Arcana) it can sometimes mean an inward reflection. Because feminine energy when it comes to metaphysics is generally thought of as inward facing. Whereas masculine energy is generally thought of as outward facing. So it’s interesting that we have The Empress (inner facing) followed by The Emperor (outer facing).
Remember in our last In-Depth reading I encouraged us all to look inside ourselves to find that unconditional love that we should consciously be giving to ourselves every day? Remember I gave the wacky advice for us to hug ourselves to kick start the unconditional self-love? Remember I admonished us through the words of Mother Ru to first love ourselves so we can more completely love someone else? Well all of that still rings true. It’s to our benefit to always consciously focus on loving ourselves. When that happens, that love spreads outward to everything we influence, causing things to grow in ways we could never imagine.
Which brings us to The Emperor. The Emperor energy is very practical. It’s very brass tacks and tangible energy. It’s very much a crunching numbers and getting to the bottom line kind of an energy. This week’s card is encouraging us to be practical as well as spiritual. It’s reminding us that anything we connect to spiritually must pass the practical test. In other words, does it work? Does it aid in the evolution of the planet? Does it get us from Point A to Point B? Is it something that can be measured in our quality of life? And more to the point of our last reading, because we’re putting love energy into everything we do everything is growing. Everything is moving. Everything is producing. Are we keeping up with it? Are we staying on top of everything that comes with the growth that’s happening all around us? Are we delegating responsibilities?
Are we giving up the need to hold a vice grip of control over everything around us?
Conversely, are we taking responsibilities for the failures and triumphs of what we started? Are we keeping all the chainsaws in air? The Emperor encourages us to be about the physical, tangible business of doing whatever it is we are doing. (Not only that, but because it’s in the upright position The Universe is telling us we’re doing something right which should give us a modicum of comfort amidst the controlled chaos.)
In-Depth Analysis: The Empress energy we tapped into before the break is all about inspiration and creation. And that’s a wonderful thing. It’s fantastic to be constantly inspired and constantly in the flow of creation energy. But there’s a flip side to that energy. And that’s what we’ll be discussing this week.
Because The Emperor is more about physical, tangible energies it’s encouraging us this week to make sure we’re building a rock solid foundation for ourselves. Oftentimes, and believe me I’m as much at fault with this as anybody else, we get excited about a bit of creative inspiration that comes our way. It’s only natural. The Universe wants us to be excited about the information it’s feeding us. The Universe wants us to be passionate about creation. The Universe wants us to love whatever it is we’re creating.
But the flip side of all that excitement and “let’s do this!” passion is there has to be some sort of solid foundation underneath it or it’s destined to at some point fail. That’s were The Emperor comes in. The Emperor energy reminds us to take things step by step. The Emperor encourages us to be about the business of building something that will last by being conscious about how things are running on the business side of our creativity. The Emperor is encouraging us to make sure we’re doing everything we can to keep our creation viable in a very tangible way.
Being a creator myself I can already hear some of you complaining that running the numbers and making sure the rent is paid and the lights stay on is hard work. You don’t connect to that energy at all. Budgeting and numbers and payrolls and expenses and profit margins make your head hurt. Believe me, I get it. In fact, I’m a card-carrying member of that tribe.
But when it comes to creating, especially when your creation is starting to produce dividends for you, it’s SO important to at least have a working knowledge of how everything in your orbit works. Even if you can finally afford to have someone take care of all of that for you, it’s important to be able to audit their work. Maybe not forensically, but certainly in a way that if an error pops up you can catch it and fix it. After all, this is YOUR business. You are ultimately responsible for its success or failure. At the end of the day it’s up to you to make sure your business plays by the rules, keeps its nose clean and does what is necessary to keep itself afloat. That’s on you.
As I said above, if you are running a business and that business is successful enough where you can actually hire people to do the things you don’t want to do, you don’t necessarily have to know the minutia of how your business is run. But a working knowledge of how things work is only going to be for your benefit. That way if something breaks down, you can at least jump in and stop the bleeding long enough for another professional to step in and do the long-term surgery.
And if you’re just starting a business, it’s ESPECIALLY important you stay on top of things. So many businesses fail even before they get fully started because of lack of preparation and lack of building that foundation. While you’re creating, The Emperor encourages you to make sure you’re doing things the right way. I’ve heard it said when you’re starting a business, treat it like a multi-million dollar company. Follow the rules. Dot all the “I’s” and cross all the “T’s”. Make sure Uncle Sam is getting what comes to him. Make sure all the paperwork is done. Make sure the lights stay on and the rent gets paid.
Conversely, when you finally do have that multi-million dollar business, it’s important to start treating it like a start-up. Meaning, now’s the time to lean more on creativity and new ideas instead of focusing on profit margins. Now’s the time to try something new and exciting. Now’s the time to play because you’ve created the room to play. Broaden your horizons because now you have the unshakable foundation that will hold you up while you try new things.
Bottom Line: For most creators it’s hard to be creative and practical at the same time. There are some who do it easily, but for the majority of us it’s very difficult. We have pie in the sky kind of dreams. We have fantastical and wonderful ideas we want to see come to fruition. We wake up passionate and rearing to go on the new thing we thought up last night. But the business side of what we do more often than not trips the majority of us up.
But The Emperor card in the upright position tells us we can do it! It’s within our capability to create strong and solid foundations for ourselves. Taking care of the brass tacks of running our business may not be the most fun we’ll have all day, but it’s necessary. And we can do it. If we were having trouble with it, The Emperor would be in the reversed position. But it’s not. Which means even if we think we can’t, we can.
I encourage each of us, no matter if we’re a multi-million dollar industry with hundreds of employees or we’re a one man operation and our dining room is also our office, to take the business side of our creations seriously. Having a solid foundation in which to grow is only going to aid us in the long run. Let’s be smart about our creativity. Let’s put it out there and be proud of what we created. But let’s also make sure the business that supports our creativity is built on a foundation that will carry us for years to come. You can thank me later.

Card: The Empress
Quick Analysis: Ah, The Empress. Pregnant with possibilities. All around her everything grows. She has dominion and rulership over all she touches. She’s in tune with the Earth and all her energies. She knows how to work with natural cycles in order to bring forth a bounty of blessings. And her endeavors are blessed by the heavens above. Since the Earth is in tune with the heavens above, by being in tune with the Earth, she too becomes in tune with the Heavens. So all work together for the greatest good not only for The Empress, but for the evolution of the planet as a whole.
When this card comes up in a reading, I always encourage the person sitting across from me to have faith. Trust that everything he or she is doing is the right thing. They may not have seen results heretofore, but very soon the results will be abundantly clear.
Because The Empress is all about growth energy. She’s full with child. Ready to give birth to another great idea, another great product, another great philosophy, another great thingamajig. And all around her is growth. The fields are growing. The trees are crowned with greenery, the flowers are in full bloom. Water is flowing all around her. She knows she can touch anything and bring it to life and she revels in her creatrix abilities.
So because The Empress is coming up in our reading today, I encourage us all to tap into that spirit of creation that is within us and go out and create something. Something that means something to us. Something we’re passionate about. Something that makes us happy and is useful to others. Let’s get out there and create! The Universe blesses our endeavors.
In-Depth Analysis: This week I was fat shamed three times by three random different people. All in the space of 24 hours. And one of those random people was my Dad!
The first two were in the same wheelhouse so I’m lumping them together. Without mincing words here, I was trying to hook up with two different guys this week. I needed to get laid. So I was casting my net out far and wide in hopes of getting that itch scratched. Both were online hook-ups (does anyone hook up in person anymore?) and both were almost closed deals.
We were exchanging messages, one via WhatsApp (does anybody use that app? If so, what’s your experience been like? Sound off in the comments below) and the other via the messaging system on whatever dating app I was on. It was all going well until we exchanged photos. At first we exchanged face pics. No problem. Neither one of us looked like Quasimodo. So far so good. Then we exchanged body pics. One look at my body and one of the guys completely vanished. So now my chances of getting laid have been cut in half. The other guy says, “U R a very big boy”. I reply, “I am. It’s something I’m working on fixing. Not to find someone (transforming your body just to find someone is a silly idea) but because I really need to be the best possible version of me at all times. If this version of me isn’t a version of me you feel you can continue with, let me know. If this version of me is someone you’d like to continue with, let me know that as well. Regardless, this is me.” He responded, “I can accept that version of you, but not sexually.” The conversation ended by me saying, “Thank you for being honest with me.”
Now an argument can be made (and I’ll make it here briefly) that people are attracted to what and whom they’re attracted to. I was not their type. So the argument can be made that it wasn’t exactly fat shaming. It was more “I’m not attracted to you, so this isn’t going to happen.” Further to that point, one of the men was very honest with me. He didn’t ghost me like the other guy did (more on that in a moment). Instead he told me up front that he couldn’t have sex with me. Something I appreciated. As I said, the other one ghosted me, which I guess is par for the course when dealing with people online. People ghost each other all the time. Hell, I’m guilty of f ghosting people every now and again. So neither one of these prospects were going to pan out because neither was attracted to me. I completely get that. So maybe it wasn’t “fat shaming”.
But it still stings.
Finally, less than 12 hours later I was at my parents’ home. I had barely settled in my recliner in the den when my father says to me, “Putting on the weight, aren’t you?” I shot back, “The mirrors in my home work, Dad. I see my reflection every day so I don’t need you to remind me of how fat I am, so please stop.” You can’t twist that into anything else but fat shaming. It’s rude, uncalled for and isn’t helpful in the least. To put it plain, it’s fat shaming.
Recently I’ve become more aware that I need to love myself more. I was told by someone I trust (who also happens to be a working psychic/energy healer) that I need to work on self-love. I need to learn how to love myself unconditionally. It’s a life lesson for me, which means it’s a lesson that has followed me this entire lifetime and will continue to follow me in subsequent lives if I don’t learn the lesson this time around.
And it’s been a tough lesson to learn, quite frankly. Ever since I hit puberty I’ve been a big guy. I was not interested in sports in any way, shape or form. I wasn’t interested in going outside to play. I wasn’t interested in rough housing with the other neighborhood boys. All I wanted to do was listen to music (Amy Grant in particular) and read books. I’d rather have conversations with people than play with people. I’d rather sing in choir than throw the ball around. I’d rather act in a play than wrestle around with people. So exercise just wasn’t in the equation for me when I hit puberty. And so I gained weight. All through middle school, high school and college all I did was gain weight. I read books, listened to music (mostly Amy), sang in choirs and acted in plays. I was happy.
After college I decided to take my health more seriously, so I joined a gym. And for quite a few years afterwards I lost weight. Still a big guy, but definitely more toned than I had ever been in my entire life. Then slowly but surely I started missing days at the gym. It started out a missed day here or there. Then a missed couple days here and there. Then a week. Then a month would go by and I hadn’t made it to the gym. Finally, I stopped going altogether. And the weight came barreling back. Then I’d decide to get back I the swing of exercising and I’d rejoin a gym. And I’d do well for a good long time. Then I’d stop. And the weight jumped right back on my body. If you know anything about yo-yo dieting, you are a member of my tribe!
So now I’m the heaviest I’ve been in over 20 years. And it’s time to get back on the health horse. I try to convince myself this time will be different than the last few times. I’m going to stick to my health plan! I’m going to eat more fruits and vegetables! I’m going to stop eating so many sweets! I’m going to stop eating so much bread! (I fucking LOVE bread! I really do. I connected with Oprah Winfrey on a deep spiritual level when on a Weight Watchers commercial Auntie O proclaimed, “I LOVE BREAD!!!” YAAASSS! YAAASSS AUNTIE O! YAAASSS!!!!) This time will be the time it sticks forever! And I hope it does. I hope this time will be the last time I have to get on the “health horse”. I hope this time will be the last time I will be this overweight. I hope this time I love myself enough to be the best possible version of me I can possibly be.
And that’s the thing that makes the difference this time. Self-love is in the equation. Not as a byproduct of living healthfully, but as a core reason for exercising and eating right in the first place.
Which brings us to The Empress. The Empress is all about being fruitful and bringing things to life. It’s about growing and developing and being blessed in those endeavors by the heavens above. Whatever the Empress touches, multiplies by thousands. Whatever the Empress focuses on grows and expands and thrives. Whatever the Empress loves, succeeds.
But in the words of Mother Ru, “If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else? Can I get an Amen up in here?” “AMEN!” “All right, let the music play!”
The Empress is advising us this week to love ourselves. We simply must. If we want our outer lives to grow and thrive and flourish, we must first love our inner selves. We must love ourselves unconditionally. We must tend to our spirits. We must heal our inner selves. We must do all the work to make ourselves the best possible versions of us we can be, but first we must love ourselves.
Some of you may be asking “Where do I start? How do I begin?” Truth be told, when my good friend told me I must learn to love myself I asked the very same thing. “Where do I start? How do I begin.” And this is what he told me: “Hug yourself. Like literally, physically hug yourself. And when you do, you’ll know what else needs to be done.”
So the next day as part of my meditation process I hugged myself. I wrapped my arms around myself and hugged. And hugged. And hugged. Nothing happened initially. No inspiration, no words of wisdom, no “this is what you do next.” I was about to give up for the day when I was impressed to say, “I love me. I love me unconditionally.” And so I said it. “I love me,” I said. “I love me unconditionally.” And I kept saying it over and over like a mantra. “I love me. I love me unconditionally. I love me. I love me unconditionally.”
If self-love is something you struggle with, the next time you meditate I encourage you as part of your meditation process to hug yourself. It may seem silly. It may seem like “pop psychology”. But in the end, what have you got to lose? Hug yourself. You may feel weird at first when you do it, but do it anyway. Hug yourself. Hug yourself with no expectations. Just hug yourself. If inspiration, impression, words of wisdom come to mind, thank your guides for giving you those instructions and continue on with your meditation. Do it everyday for a month and see what changes occur.
Bottom Line: The Empress encourages us to allow ourselves to grow and prosper. But in order to be truly prosperous from the inside out, The Empress encourages us to love ourselves from the inside out. That love, that unconditional love we begin to feel for ourselves when we take time to consciously love ourselves on a daily basis can only extend outwards towards everything we touch. And when we infise love energy into everything we do it’s like pouring Miracle-Gro on our greenery and flowers (without the harsh chemicals). Everything bigger and brighter. And the return is amazing! It’s true. When we give love, we get more love in return. It’s a beautiful thing. So when we love ourselves, that love has no other choice but to permeate everything else in our orbit. Love builds on love. The more love we give to ourselves, the more love we have to share with others.
So I encourage us to take on that love energy The Empress is sharing with us this week. Take it in and let it mend us. Let it heal us. Let it give us love unconditionally. Let us be about love consciousness all day, every day. Let us put our self-consciousness and embarrassment to the side and hug ourselves and see what if anything happens. Let’s love ourselves unconditionally first so that we have that much more unconditional love to give to others. You can thank me later!

In-Depth Analysis: In mid writing this week about how great it is to have a card that doesn’t have a “dark” side to it, spirit said to me “Not so fast. We have something to talk about that may not be the most bright shiny happy topic in the world.” Dammit! I was SO hoping to bring good and peaceful and happy news this week! Why must it always be so deep and painful and dark? Why can’t it be just once rainbows and unicorns and cotton candy and endless summer? Dammit! *sigh* But I must follow what spirit is telling me to write, so here goes.
There’s someone out there who has been taking care of a loved one as he or she is making their slow transition to the other side. You work night and day to make sure your loved one is comfortable and at peace. You do everything in your power to make sure your loved one is well taken care of. And by and large it’s not a burden. It’s not a chore. In fact, you feel it an honor and a privilege to be able to take care of the person you love as he or she is closing this chapter of their lives. You love this person with all your heart and you would do anything for this person. (I’m getting it’s a spouse.)
Please understand the person you’re taking care of knows what you’re doing for them. And they may not be able to show it but they are so grateful for the work you’re doing. They’re so grateful you love them enough to take care of them when they can’t take care of themselves. They wish you wouldn’t take on so much and worry about how you’ll be after they’re gone, but for the most part they are grateful to you. And they love you so much for it. They can’t believe they lucked into marrying you. They sometimes don’t feel like they deserve the love you’re giving them. They sometimes feel guilty for causing all this thankless work you do. But mostly, they’re full of gratitude.
You should also know their transition will be a peaceful one. It may not seem like it, because their day to day life is such a struggle. And their actual physical passing may not be the calmest when it happens. But if you’re able to be quiet in that moment and actually see beyond the pain, look into their eyes and truly see them and they you, you’ll make their passing easier. They will pass in love.
And if you’re unable to be with them when they pass, it’s important to tell them whenever you’re with them how much you love them. It’s important they hear you’re not taking care of them out of a sense of obligation, rather you’re taking care of them because you love them. You’d do anything for them. It’s important to not just do, but also to say. Because by telling them how you really feel about them, it will make their passing easier as well.
And when they do finally pass, it will be smooth sailing to the other side. Once the body and spirit let go of each other the passage to the other side is so easy. It’s seamless. It’s smooth as silk. There is no fear, only peace. And love. So much love. Love all around. From all sides, love embraces them as they move across the veil. Their angels, guides, and ancestors lead them into the light. Once there, loved ones all gather round to welcome the newest addition to heaven. Tears of reunion and joy abound as friends, family and loved ones show up to welcome home their sibling.
Finally, no matter what difficulties your loved one faced while he or she was here on earth, all that pain is removed once they cross into heaven. They are released from all worry, all pain, all frustration and despair. All that’s left is love. Unconditional love. They are free. And it’s wonderful.
Bottom Line: This week has been all about transitions. A different point of view. A different locale. A different career. A different personal life. Going from life to death to everlasting life. Whatever transition we’re experiencing this week, please know it’s going to be a lot easier than we could ever imagine it would. It’s going to be light. It’s going to be breezy. Quick Analysis: The Knight of Cups in the reverse position. When this card comes up in a reading it oftentimes can mean the end of the honeymoon. It can mean you’re slowly moving away from the “wine and roses” phase of the relationship into the more practical day to day phase of being in a relationship. This is when the relationship faces its first challenge.
Ain’t love grand? At the beginning of a relationship, it’s all butterflies and giddiness, sunshine and springtime, lightness and love. It’s wonderful. It’s the best feeling ever to be in love. To be in the first throes of love. Where nothing feels wrong with the world as long as you’re together. It’s a beautiful thing.
But what happens when those feelings begin to fade? In every relationship there is a natural progression from that all consuming fire of love to the slow and steady burn of a healthy relationship. Sure, every once in a while it’s a good thing to stoke the flames of passion in order to keep the relationship vibrant and alive. But most relationships settle into that slow and steady burn that’s more practical for a long term relationship. It’s been said that intense romantic feeling of love only last a the most three years.
And then what?
The Knight of Cups in the reverse position is telling us we have reached a point of decision. That all encompassing flame of passion has died down. He’s not giving you flowers anymore. She’s not writing you love sonnets anymore. The love you have for each other hasn’t changed. It’s just you’re no longer making those overt overtures that used to be the norm. You’ve settled into a pattern and a flow.

The Knight of Cups Reversed is gently advising you that maybe it’s time for some open and honest communication between you and your partner. Perhaps it may be time to stoke those flames. In-Depth Analysis: Just a little bit of a forewarning: We’re about to get into some deeper and darker territory now. I’m being led to share that sometimes when the Knight of Cups is reversed, it could mean the time has come to see people the way they really are. To see the truth behind the mask. To see a person honestly. And sometimes that real person that’s hiding behind the mask is not the greatest person in the world.
I’m getting really strongly there is someone out there whose been duped. One of you has met someone who was everything you asked for in a mate. He or she was everything you ever dreamed in a partner. He or she checked off all the boxes. However, slowly but surely that façade has begun to chip away. And the real person underneath is not a person you should be aligning yourself with.
There may be abuse. It’s mostly psychological abuse. He or she is telling you that you’re worthless. Unlovable. Unworthy. Ugly. Fat. Dirty. Stupid. Moronic. Retarded. Silly. He or she is threatening to leave you. They wonder aloud why they stay with you in the first place and you should feel lucky he or she has stayed this long. It’s relentless. It’s non-stop. Every day you wake up all tied in knots emotionally because you know today will be yet another day where the abuse will not let up.
And then there are those few and far between days where he or she is kind, loving and doting. They make you feel pretty. They make you feel worthy. They hold you up as the king or queen you really are. For a brief moment in time, they make you feel loved. Which is even more confusing because the very next day they flip the switch again and you’re back to being the scum underneath their feet. They don’t physically hit you, but their words hit harder than any fist could ever swing.
If the abuse isn’t verbal abuse, it could be through neglect. They take you for granted. They treat you as a meal ticket. They treat you as a place to live. They treat you as transportation. They treat you as a person whose sole purpose is to take care of their needs. They could care less about you otherwise. They ignore you and keep you at arms length unless they want something from you.
If any of the above is you, I encourage you to know you are better than this. You are worth more than this. You deserve better than this. But only YOU can decide that for yourself. No one else can make that determination for you. You must make that choice yourself.
And let’s not ignore the fact that loving yourself is in fact a CHOICE. We have to consciously love ourselves in a very real and tangible way. We have to take out time each day, sometimes multiple times a day, to remind ourselves of our worth. We must CHOOSE to make ourselves our top priority. Because if we don’t, no one else will either.
You are worth better. You are lovable. You are strong. You are wonderful. You are beautiful. You deserve someone who sees you as the God or Goddess you are and treat you as such. I encourage you today to see yourself as the most loving and lovable person on the planet. Because you are.

Card: 5 of Swords
Quick Analysis: The 5 of Swords is all about fighting. It’s about chaos and not being focused. The person who has the 5 of Swords in their reading is probably either living in a chaotic situation, or feels like he or she has to fight all the time, or for some reason has a hard time focusing.
I really worry sometimes there’s too much chaotic energy in the world. It feels as if the world is in a topsy-turvy Bizarro kind of moment. What was right is now wrong. What used to be up is now down. Friends have turned into foes and enemies into friends. Everyone has their guard up and looking over their shoulders, scared of the sneak attack that could be coming from any quarter. That built up tension energy I feel is starting to affect the karmic energy of the planet. And while I won’t go into the weeds on that, it’s important to know how we navigate our lives directly impacts not only the ones around us but has a ripple effect that directly affects the entire planet.
When the 5 of Swords comes up it can also mean there’s no focus. There’s a lot of movement and ambition, but it’s scattered in a million different directions. Because of that, nothing gets done. Or if by some miracle it does actually get done, it’s never quite up to the level it could be. It’s like we’re being pulled in 5 different directions. All of which require our immediate and full attention. But because we can’t devote our full and undivided attention in 5 different directions, all the things we’re trying to accomplish end up getting halfway done.
When this happens I encourage us to pick one direction. Pick one thing to focus on. We talk about slowing things down to make time for everything in the In-Depth Analysis below. But for the moment just imagine yourself picking only one thing to focus on, knowing all things will get done in their own time.
In-Depth Analysis: It’s me against the world. I’m fighting the good fight. I will go down fighting, but until I do I’ve got a lot of fight in me!
But to tell the truth, I’m kind of tired of fighting. No really, I am. It seems I’m fighting a never ending war of tiny battles. A skirmish breaks out over here. I put that fire out only to see another fire break out over here. In the middle of putting that fire out, another one erupts. I’m constantly fighting. Fighting, fighting, fighting.
Sometimes I forget what I’m even fighting for. I’m just fighting. The tiniest perceived slight can immediately put me over the edge and into fight mode. Suddenly, the gloves come off and I’m brawling with someone who didn’t see it coming and didn’t want to fight, but somehow has been put in the position of defending himself because he’s being attacked.
I’m literally on the razor’s edge each and every day. I feel tight and tense. I wake up sore all over I’m so tense. Getting out of bed can sometimes be a chore. Walking outside of the peaceful confines of my bedroom can sometimes be a Herculean task because I know there’s chaos awaiting me on the other side of my bedroom door. But I power through every day. I have to. I have no other choice.
On my good days I can get through the day without biting an innocent victim’s head off. On my good days I can duck and dodge the slings and arrows of life and get through the day without much bruising or bleeding. But those days are getting fewer and further in between. I find most days I’m wound up so tight, I feel like I need the energetic release of a fight. If not a knock down, drag out full out war, certainly a few choice words has the effect of temporarily releasing some of this pent up anger and rage.
I’ve been told I should pick my battles. I’ve been told not everything requires a response. I’ve been advised to seek peace in the middle through meditation, prayer and empathy. All good ideas. If only the people I interact with on a day to day basis were on the same page it would make everything SO much easier.
But they’re as wound up as I am. When I look around me I see people walking around just a bundle of wound up tight nerves. I see people who are just waiting for the opportunity to jump down somebody’s throat. I see people literally afraid of other people because they are afraid of what might happen if they let go of some of that pressure. Then I see others who have resigned themselves to their fate. They take on the cruelty of wound up tight individuals and make the other person’s problems their own. We’re all so heavy laden with emotional baggage it’s a wonder we’re able to get through our days at all. Never mind the real possibility of hurting ourselves or someone else in the process of maneuvering through life.
Does the above sound like you? Even a little bit? If so, I have a suggestion: Slow down. That’s right, slow down. Consciously make the choice to slow down. I know in this world of faster, faster, faster, it may seem like that’s an impossible task, but it’s not. Here’s how you do it:
Imagine the entire world is in slow motion. I know that might sound crazy, but go with me on this. Imagine everything is in slow motion. Your mate, your children, your barista, your boss, your co-workers, your customers and clients, strangers on the streets and driving through traffic, imagine they’re all moving in slow motion. Everything is happening in real time and as it should. Nothing is falling behind schedule. But your perception of everything is in slow motion.
The benefits of seeing the world through slow motion goggles is two-fold. One, when things are slow and you have all the time in the world to accomplish what you need to accomplish, that’s an IMMEDIATE lifting of burden off your shoulders. Not only that but you have time to relax and get in the flow of your day to day life instead of being dragged along behind it. You’re accomplishing all you need to accomplish in any given 24 hours because that 24 hours feels like 48, or 72 or 96 hours or more. You’re not only getting things done but you will find you’re a LOT more relaxed doing it.
The second benefit is you get to see trouble coming from a mile away. You see it coming but because the world is in slow motion you have PLENTY of time to decide how you will react to it. You can choose to disengage. You can choose to see it from the other person’s point of view. You have plenty of time to think of a well thought out and reasonable response. You can choose the middle way or you can choose to fight. But any choice you make will be a well thought out and appropriate response to whatever is coming your way. And you have INFINITY to take care of it.
Seeing the world in slow motion is a task that takes lots and LOTS of practice. But once you’re able to even partially master it, you will find yourself at the very least SO much more relaxed. You see problems coming from a mile away. You are able to accomplish your daily tasks as quickly and as on time as you have before but because in your mind everything is slowed down, you’re much more peaceful and serene as you go about your day to day tasks. Finally, if there is chaos all around you, slowing things down allows you the opportunity to see the root cause of the problem. At that point you can decide what the appropriate response should be. Again, it takes lots of practice. But it’s something I KNOW you can do to achieve more balance in your life.
Bottom Line: Chaos doesn’t have to be a way of life. Spending every waking moment shadow boxing doesn’t have to be what you do day in and day out. There’s always a choice. And when there’s too much chaos around you, sometimes slowing things down to see the root of the problem is the way to go. It’s like you’re Barry Allen (The Flash). You’re speeding around in the Speed Force but it feels like a light walk through the park. And you can take the time to see people and circumstances for what they really are and make a determination based upon those facts. So I encourage you to become Barry Allen (or Wally West or anyone else in the Flash Family) and slow the world down so you can better deal with it on your terms. You can thank me later.

Card: Ace of Cups
Quick Analysis: Ace cards are all about beginnings. The start of something wonderful. Cups are all about our emotions and our inner selves. Cups can also give us insight into our spiritual selves. So when I see an Ace of Cups I immediately see someone who is at the start of a beautiful emotional and spiritual journey.
When the Ace of Cups comes up in a reading I see an overflowing and abundance of emotions bubbling up to the surface. Depending on the question posed by the querent, I know if those emotions are helpful or if they’re hindering growth. But for our purposes today we’re going to assume the emotions are good and helpful emotions. Keeping it positive up in this gig.
Emotions can sometimes be scary things. We’re taught from a very early age (especially if we’re women) to not allow ourselves to fully feel or express our emotions. Especially those emotions that are deemed “bad”. So we’re taught to tamp those emotions down and not allow them to be seen, especially in polite company.
The truth of the matter is emotions aren’t inherently bad. It’s just that sometimes emotions cause other people to be uncomfortable. And instead of owning up to the fact that their uncomfortable, it’s easier just to say that emotion is somehow “bad”. What we do with our emotions and how we control our emotions (note I didn’t say tamp them out, I said control them) can make situations bad or good. But our emotions aren’t inherently bad.
This week the Ace of Cups is encouraging us to allow ourselves to feel emotion. Allow ourselves to be our true authentic selves. The Ace of Cups is encouraging us to explore our emotional and spiritual side and allow that evolution and growth to occur as easily and gently as water cresting and rolling over a fall. The Ace of Cups is encouraging us not to be afraid of our emotions or our spirituality. It’s encouraging us to dig a little deeper and decide what’s right for us and what we no longer need. I encourage all of us to listen to the wisdom of the waterfall and allow the energy of the Ace of Cups to be our energy throughout the coming week.
In-Depth Analysis: Quick story – One night many years ago I was with my best squirrelfriend just hanging out, shooting the breeze. Out of the blue she says to me, “Hey! You wanna read each other’s cards?” At the time I hadn’t studied tarot at all. I knew next to nothing about it. (Again, this was MANY years ago.) My friend said, “Oh just look at the pictures and tell me what they say to you.” I was always up for a new exciting adventure (a trait, thankfully, I carry with me to this day) so I said, “What the hell. Let’s do it.” So she got out her tarot cards and read me. Then it came my turn to read her and I followed her instructions to the letter. I looked at the cards and told her what I thought of the imagery. After I was done my friend said, “Wow, you’re really good at that!” And the rest, as they say, is history.
I tell you that story because as often has been the case with this blog, I sometimes go left field. I sometimes start talking about things that at first glance may not be “textbook accurate” when it comes to the cards. (If you want the “textbook accurate” analysis, it’s in the quick analysis above.)
This week’s card is no exception. I looked at the card and immediately saw a young lady, naked, bathing in the river underneath one of the waterfalls. I decided to go with that imagery and see what else it would reveal to me.
I started seeing cleansing. Not just cleansing the outside, but cleansing on the inside as well. I started to see the water washing away everything that was no longer necessary. I saw the water carrying away everything that no longer suited the woman. I saw the water breaking up and sweeping away all the things that weren’t in her best interest anymore.
What’s more, I saw what was left behind. I saw the woman as she really was. I saw her as bright, vibrant, alive, beautiful. The woman was grounded, strong and stable. She stood tall and courageous. She stood naked and vulnerable, but there was strength in that vulnerability. She was joyous and happy and playful and silly. She was erotic and sexy and sensuous and wet. She was a daughter, a bride, a virgin, a whore. She was a mother, a grandmother, a wise woman. She was everything.
But mostly, she was herself. She was exactly who she was supposed to be. She was comfortable in her skin. She was happy with her lot in life, yet still curious and excited about what lied in store for her just around the bend. She was herself. Her true, authentic self. And she loved herself. Most of all, she loved herself.
Which leads me to my homework assignment for you. Yes, homework. But it’s fun homework. And the good news is at least a third of it you already do everyday (or at least you should).
When you take your next shower, I want you to envision all the things that are no longer you and no longer serve a good and positive role in your life dropping off you like big clumps of dirt. Don’t worry, the water is strong enough and the drain is big enough to handle the flow of water and dirt. Be as specific as you possibly can as you’re visualizing whatever it is you’re getting rid of in your life. If you can’t speak it, see it washing away. As you’re washing yourself from head to toe, see everything that is no longer who you are disengaging from your body and washing away.
Then when you get out of the shower and are drying off, repeat this phrase: “This is who I really am and I love me.” “This is who I really am and I love me.” “This is who I really am and I love me.” Keep repeating that phrase over and over as you’re drying off and then as you’re getting ready for the day ahead.
I encourage you to do this every day as you’re showering. See the things that no longer serve you washing away. Then visualize everything that’s left behind as your authentic self.
Finally, take a few moments and really love your authentic self.
Don’t be alarmed if who you really are doesn’t necessarily match what you do everyday. Remember, who you are and what you do are not necessarily one in the same. Even if you’re passionate about what you do everyday, what you do is shockingly NOT who you are. In a perfect world what you do and how you navigate through your day should be a natural outgrowth of who you are. It should compliment who you are instead of define who you are. So as you’re navigating your daily life don’t be thrown off if in the middle of it all you have a realization that what you’re doing isn’t you. It’s an opportunity for you to look inward and decide if what you’re doing is an outgrowth and compliment to who you are. If it is, great. Carry on. If not, great. You have an opportunity to course correct.
Evolution doesn’t happen overnight. Neither does personal evolution. It takes work. Seeing the best in yourself takes time and patience. Loving you as you really are takes tenacity and determination. But it’s something we all could benefit from.
Bottom Line: Find your river. Find your waterfall. Allow the water to cleanse everything away that no longer serves you. Discover your true, authentic self. Allow that true, authentic self to shine through as you joy in the water. Stand tall and strong in yourself. Most of all, love yourself. You can thank me later.

Week Of March 12th – March 18th 2018
Card: 7 of Cups
Quick Analysis: The Seven of Cups is all about illusions. Being taken for a ride. Being sold a bill of goods. Snake oil salesman. A bridge that needs to be sold. When the Seven of Cups comes up in a reading it can oftentimes mean the person sitting cross from me is either caught in a web of illusions or a warning against the danger of getting caught in that web of deceit and illusion.
The Seven of Cups generally comes around when we’re at our lowest point. Where we’ve dug ourselves in deep and find ourselves unable to climb out of the hole we’ve dug. Or it could be we’re in the middle of a dark night of the soul and we’re looking for a way out. But all around us is misery and despair, if not a reality of the world around us, certainly in the world of our own creation. We can see that we’re in a bad place mentally, emotionally and spiritually, but we can’t figure out how to free ourselves.
That’s when the Seven of Cups appears. The person with all the answers to all our problems. The religion that seemingly wipes away everything and allows us o start fresh and new without the pesky problem of dealing with our own baggage and demons. The weight loss supplement that will have us in a size 2 in no time flat. The potion that will renew our virility and sexual appetite. The concoction that will heal all things that physically ail us. The job opportunity that with no training and with little time investment will give us access to millions of dollars (for a small fee, that is). The person who makes us feel special when the person we’re committed to has lost interest. The drug that will momentarily make us forget all our problems and make us feel happiness. Who cares about the crash afterwards? There’s always more drugs.
The insidious part about the Seven of Cups is how seductive it is. How enticing it can be. How beautiful and wonderful it seems at the outset. Especially when we’ve been searching for a way out of our present situation. It’s can be so attractive when someone comes along with “the answer”. Not “an” answer, but “THE” answer. It’s all too easy and all too human to become ensnared in that death trap. And many, including myself, have fallen victim to its wiles from time to time. If we’re lucky we have a moment of clarity and are able to walk away from those situations. Maybe our pockets are a little bit lighter, but at least we get to walk away having learned a lesson and ultimately are better off having gone through it. The not so lucky ones are the ones that are still trapped in that web of deceit and lies. Those are the ones I’m concerned about today. And those are the ones we’ll be talking about in the in-depth analysis below.
If you find yourself deep in the snares of the Seven of Cups, it’s important to realize that’s the first step. Self-realization is the Universe’s way of allowing us to see ourselves as we really are. It may only be a fleeting glimpse, but it’s the Universe’s way of gently tapping us on the shoulder and nudging us in the right direction. When we get those “a-ha” moments (thank you, Oprah!) it’s vital we pay attention to them. Accepting a situation and who we are – who we REALLY are – is truly the first step. The next step is being brutally honest about what we do and don’t want from our lives. If we want peace, prosperity, health, happiness and forgiveness, then we must be about the business of making that happen for ourselves.
Yes, the impetus is on us. We are ultimately in control of how our lives pan out. There are guides set up for each of us along the way. There are answers we will find that will help us evolve to the next level. But unfortunately there is no one short-cut answer. Even for those of us who believe in a Higher Power, the answer isn’t completely and wholly in that Higher Power’s hands. We must WANT it for ourselves. But not only want it, but do the work necessary to take control of our own evolution. And for those of us who DON’T believe in a Higher Power, the impetus is DOUBLY on us because there is no partnership with a Higher Power. It’s all on us to do the work necessary. Either way, we must put in the work necessary to see the results we want.
I encourage us to continue to be creative, to continue to be imaginative. To continue to create the world we want to live in. But while we’re doing that, make sure the foundation of that brave new world is built upon truth rather than illusion. Truth evolves and grows, but it’s always sable. Illusion fades away like early morning mist. Let’s build our foundations on solid ground.
In-Depth Analysis: I love this interpretation of the Seven of Cups. It reminds me so much of the Walt Disney version of “Pinocchio”. Specifically, the “Pleasure Island” portion of the movie. Do you remember it? If not, no worries. At the end of this post right after the song of the week are five clips that will refresh your memory. While the animated movie is all about listening to your conscience and being a “good boy”, the lessons of the Seven of Cups are on full display during the Pleasure Island portion of the movie.
To summarize (courtesy of Wikipedia): Meanwhile, across town, Honest John and Gideon meet a coachman who promises to pay them money if they can find naughty little boys for him to take to Pleasure Island. Encountering Pinocchio on his way home, they convince him that he needs to take a vacation there. On the way to Pleasure Island, he befriends Lampwick, a delinquent boy. Without rules or authority to enforce their activity, Pinocchio and the other boys soon engage in smoking tobacco, gambling, vandalism, and getting drunk, much to Jiminy's dismay. Later, while trying to get home, Jiminy discovers that the island hides a horrible curse: the boys brought to Pleasure Island are transformed into donkeys and sold into slave labor. Jiminy runs back to warn Pinocchio, only to discover that Lampwick has transformed into a donkey; Pinocchio manages to escape, only partially transformed.
Granted, it’s dark. In fact, as I was looking over the clips from the Pleasure Island part of the film I couldn’t help thinking this is really scary and dark. Human trafficking at its worst. But that it’s dark is more the reason it resonates so well with what we’re talking about.
In this scenario you had boys who wanted to escape rules and just be boys. So there was an entire island devoted to the realization of that dream. Only problem is the island was cursed to turn the boys into donkeys. Then those donkeys were basically sold into slavery.
When we’re talking about the Seven of Cups we’re talking about someone or something that’s promising us an escape from the pressures and realities of the life we’re living right now. Or it’s promising us a new us, or a better us or a saved us, or any number of things that seem better than the life we’re living right now. Only problem is, it’s a temporary fix. We need more and more to get the same results. Or we’re convinced we need more and more to stay young, beautiful and vibrant. Or we need more and more to escape the reality of the lives we’re living right now. Until one day we’re looking around and realizing we’re, as Jiminy Cricket would say, “making a jack-ass of yourself”. (Side note: Jiminy Cricket isn’t above cussing a bitch out. See above. Which makes him one of my favorite Disney characters.)
The movie never tells us what becomes of the boys who are turned into donkeys and sold into slavery. (Human trafficking! YAY!) Is that their fate forever? Or at some point does the curse wear off and they become real boys again? I get the sneaking suspicion they’re doomed to be donkeys for the rest of their natural lives.
I’m not as concerned with the Pinocchio’s of the world who escape the Pleasure Island curse with a tail and two donkey ears to prove they were there. I’m more concerned with those of us who have turned into donkeys and have resigned ourselves to a life of slavery. There’s always a choice. As long as there is life and breath and we can make conscious decisions on our own, we have a choice. We can choose to change our circumstances. We can choose to stop drinking the Kool-Aid. We can choose to come out of the fog of illusion and step into the solid ground of a life we control.
That being said, and I say this often, I am fully aware that addiction is a real thing. And simply making a choice to end addictive behaviors is not the final step in recovery. In fact, it’s just the beginning of a VERY long, years long process. Even if it’s not an addiction thing, changing patterns in our lives is a lifelong commitment. We must always stay on top of our lives to make sure we aren’t falling back into patterns that are no longer suiting us. It’s hard. It’s constant. It gets easier after time, but how long until things get easier is as individual as all of us are.
But as I said above, making that decision that we’ve lived long enough in the shadow of illusion is the first step in making a change in our lives. Seeing people, situations and circumstances as they truly are is a wonderful eye opener. But it’s just the start. That moment of clarity, that “a-ha!” moment, is only the beginning. Breaking illusions can be a tough task to take on. But I firmly believe each of us has what it takes to evolve, grow and change.
Bottom Line: The Seven of Cups is so alluring. And when we’re in the middle of living in the illusion, we’re having the times of our lives. It feels good, otherwise people wouldn’t live in illusion. But that living in illusion comes at a price. It’s a price none of us are able to afford. I encourage each of us to do what is necessary to break the chains of illusion and work in the here and now, which can be beautiful. You can thank me later.
BOTTOM Bottom Line: Jiminy Cricket is not above cursing a bitch out and will do so if you test him. Don’t test Jiminy.

Card: 7 of Pentacles (Reversed)
Quick Analysis: The Seven of Pentacles is all about working. Tending to our gardens. Making sure our gardens aren’t overgrown with weeds or grass or insects that will eat away at our hard work. Depending on the querent’s question, the “garden” we’re talking about could either be introspective, i.e., emotional and spiritual or it could be practical via physical or financial. Either way, if the Seven of Pentacles comes up in a reading it means more focus in tending to our “gardens” is in order. Especially when the card comes up in the Reversed position as it is in this week’s reading.
When the Seven of Pentacles comes up in the reversed position it could mean we aren’t spending enough time focusing in on our gardens. So much of life can easily be put on auto-pilot. So much of our lives are rote enough that we don’t even think how we get from point A to point Z. We just do it. When the Seven of Pentacles comes up in the reversed position it can mean our lives have become mostly muscle memory. We don’t put much thought into our lives anymore. Our lives just happen. We just happen to be along for the ride.
The danger in that of course is getting stuck in a rut. Getting so caught up in routine we go from living to merely existing. We may not plan our day out to the nanosecond consciously, but most of us can pretty well predict day by day how our days will play out. Which up to a point is fine. Humans are creatures of habit after all. We like ritual and routine. But as I said above, there comes a point when ritual and routine rob us from actually living our lives. We can easily look around one day and it’s the exact same as the day before. And the day before that. And tomorrow doesn’t look much different than today. When that happens, we’ve gone from living to existing. And when that happens we begin to question what our role in the world is and what we will leave behind.
If this is you, I encourage you this week to be more conscious about the way you’re living. Find ways to tend to your garden by finding a way to ignite your passion for life again. It could be in revisiting an old pastime or hobby. It could be in spending time doing something you’ve always wanted to do. It could be in deciding to take better care of your health by eating one healthy meal a day and walking around the block. It could be through meditation or prayer or spending more time with the people you love. Regardless of what it is that will ignite the fire of passion and joy in your life, I encourage you to take time out this week and consciously focus on those things.
In-Depth Analysis: Conscious living. This has come up for me in a big way this week and it fits this week’s card like a glove. As I stated above, there’s so much of our lives that can be relegated to muscle memory. We get up, we get ready for work, we go to work, we leave work, we handle the practical needs of our families, we have a few moments to ourselves at the end of the evening before we go to bed only to start the process over again the next day. Things get done. The practical needs of our families are well taken care of. Our lives are a well-oiled machine. And our lives keep chugging along.
It’s like we’re taking care of the land the garden is supposed to be on, but we’re not doing anything with the land itself. All we’re doing is maintaining it. Not planting anything on it. Not tending to new growth. Not watering it. Not spending time with it making sure it’s being nurtured and fed. Just maintaining the land.
When was the last time we filled our day with intent and accomplished what we set out to do? Please understand I’m not talking about making a “to-do” list. We all have “to-do” lists we try to complete each day. I’m talking about a deeper intent than putting out fires, preventing fires, and tending to the health and safety of ourselves and our families. I’m talking about intent that feeds our souls and thereby feeds the soul consciousness of the planet. When’s the last time we decided that all our moves throughout the day would be in service to other people? Have we been moving through life making sure what we leave behind is for the betterment of humankind? If not, why not?
One reason may be that consciously tending to our gardens takes work. It takes time, energy, resources, patience and follow through no matter how long it takes. And who of us has that extra time, and all the rest to tend to our gardens? It’s hard enough to keep our heads above water. It’s hard enough to make sure our families are taken care of. It’s hard enough trying to make sure all the practical matters of our lives get the attention they need. Now we’re being asked to carve out even more of our day to make sure we’re tending to our gardens. That’s CRAZY talk!
Maybe.
And you’re right. It’s hard to ask more of us than we already give. But what’s the alternative? The alternative is when it’s almost all said and done to look back on a life of no consequence. Sure, if we are lucky enough to have a family, our legacies can be found in the lives of our children. But what if we’re not lucky enough to have children? Or what if we were so busy taking care of the practical needs of our children we didn’t have a lot of extra time for anything else? So our kids could care less about us as we enter our golden years because we didn’t care enough to care about them in their formative years.
Or what if we did give our children love and soul attention? What if we raised well-adjusted, loving, healthy, tax-paying children? Those children eventually grow up and start families and lives of their own. Then where are we? Empty nest syndrome is a real thing. Figuring out who we are outside our children is something we shouldn’t wait until they’re grown and gone to figure out for ourselves. Time moves quickly. And the older we get the quicker times seems to move. So if we haven’t figured out what we want to grow in our gardens yet, now is the perfect time to start.
But that takes work. It takes the determination to actually set aside time strictly for ourselves each day. Even if it’s 20 minutes where you go to your quiet space and tend to your own garden for that time. I’ve heard of parents making the bathroom their sacred space because it’s the only room in the house where they can be alone. So be it! Whatever it takes to do the soul work necessary to tend to our gardens, we must be about that business.
Finally, being about that business takes work. It takes time, dedication and determination to see it through. We must first determine it’s worth it. We must decide tending to our gardens is important enough to us. We must resolve that we not only need to tend to our gardens but it’s absolutely necessary for our continued presence here on earth that we take the time to do so. And then work at it. Spend a portion of each day working on our gardens. Cleaning it. Pruning it. Getting rid of the insects and animals that would eat away at it. Pulling up weeds that if not watched would suffocate it.
And then as our gardens grow and prosper to share that wealth with other people. It does no good to have a garden if we’re just going to keep it all to ourselves. We must share in our bounty. We must share in our good fortune. And through our sharing of what we’ve accomplished in our own gardens, the hope is it will inspire others to work on their own gardens, thereby creating that ripple effect everyone is so fond of talking about.
Conscious tending to our gardens. Not allowing weeds to grow. Watching for animals who would take our hard work. Being conscious about what we need to do and being about the business of doing it. Knowing it will take longer than we anticipate it should. But hard work doesn’t have to be its own reward. We can be conscious about doing the work and take for granted the rewards will come. Keep our focus where our focus should be. On the work.
Bottom Line: This week we’re being given the choice to either exist or live. Which one will we choose? I sincerely hope we choose to live, and live bountifully. This week I encourage each of us to discover what our passions in life are. I encourage us to find ways we can put a little spark and pizazz back into our lives. I encourage us to consciously tend to our gardens. Do the work necessary, even if it’s just 20 minutes a day hiding out in the bathroom, to tend to our gardens. As we do we will eventually see the rewards of that work. And when we do, I encourage us to share in that bounty. Thereby, we will inspire others to tend to their gardens and share in their wealth as well. So get out there and work your garden and watch it grow! You can thank me later.

Week Of February 26th – March 4th 2018
Card: Judgement (Reversed)
Quick Analysis: The Judgement card. Oftentimes this card can be one of the most straightforward cards in the entire deck. If the Judgement card is in the upright position it generally means judgement is in your favor. If reversed, as it is this week, it generally means judgement is against you. Sometimes based on the querent’s question, it could be a matter of time. If the Judgement card is upright it can mean Judgement will be swift. Conversely, if it’s reversed it can mean judgement will take longer to come. Which, depending on your question could be a good or bad thing.
The Justice card as well as the Judgement card have one thing in common. They both signify a ruling concerning you or someone around you with whom you are connected. Where they differ is the Justice card generally means something outside of you like a court case or a decision that will be made that will affect you outwardly, either in the physical or material sense. Whereas the Judgement card is really more about those things that will affect us emotionally and spiritually. And that’s where we’ll be focusing our energies in this week’s reading.
Because the card is in the reverse position it’s telling me that judgement is slow to come for us. Which in and of itself can be fine. The problem is trying to figure out what’s keeping it from coming. Is it something we’re doing? Is it something we COULD be doing? Is there a life lesson we’re failing to get? Why are we waiting so long for the answers to come?
Great questions.
And I wish I had a great ready answer for those questions. But I don’t. What I have found in life is so much of it is trial and error. So much of it is figuring it out as we go. So much of life is trying and failing over and over again. And then trying and failing again. And then, well, you get the picture.
Life is one big learning opportunity. And the truth is there is no one “judgement” waiting for us at the end of it. We will succeed in learning many lessons along the way. And we will fail at learning many more than we learn. That’s just the nature of our existence here on this planet. We are here ultimately to learn. What that learning process entails and what we’re specifically meant to learn in any one lifetime is as individual as we all are.
But the one thing we can be sure of is Judgement will eventually come. It may not come when we want it to, but it will always be right on time. So we can take comfort and solace in that. It may not be much, but maybe it’s all we need for right now.
In-Depth Analysis: This card is really hitting home for me this week. Much like a lot of you this week, I’m waiting on Judgement. I’m waiting on some sort of direction. I’m waiting for an answer to come. But that answer hasn’t arrived yet. And so this week has been an especially hard week for me, as I am sure it has been for many of you.
And when Judgement in our eyes is slow in manifesting we may have the tendency to wonder if there’s something we’re doing wrong. If we could have possibly done something different. Or if not, we wonder if there’s something we’re missing. If there’s an answer right in front of us for some odd reason we’re not finding. If there are patterns we’re repeating, if we discover a part of our lives where the specific scenarios may be different but the patterns are the same, we may spend a lot of time wondering if we’re missing the big life lesson. We may have the tendency to wonder maybe we’re just not “getting it”. I wish I had the answer that would unlock that mystery of life. But I don’t. I don’t know.
However, what I DO know is Judgement is always kind. It may not seem like it sometimes when the consequences of our actions come home for a reckoning, but it is. In the grand scheme of things, Judgement is kind. Judgement gives us the opportunity to learn from our mistakes. Judgement gives us the opportunity to see how our actions affect not only ourselves and our circumstances, but also the people around us. Judgement is a chance for us to decide to not only do better but be better. It’s our chance to learn, grow and evolve.
Even if the consequences of our actions lead to our earthly demise, I am 100% positive we have a moment in heaven where we get a chance to decompress and review our lives. We get to see our lives from the point of view of the people we impacted. If there is a great “Judgement Day” or a great “Reckoning”, that’s it. We get to see how our triumphs and trials and errors and successes impacted the people around us. It’s at that point we again have an opportunity for growth, evolution and change. So even in heaven Judgement is kind. Again, it probably doesn’t feel like it when we’re in the middle of our reckoning, but in the end it is.
So if you take anything from this reading today, know that the only way to get through the waiting for Judgement to arrive is to wait for it to arrive. Have patience. Have faith. Know that you will have good days and you will have bad days. Know that some days you will feel in the Universal flow and you will know for sure everything will work out okay. Then there will be other days where the weight of the world feels like it’s pressing down on you. Where you’re so sad and depressed and despairing that you find it hard to move. But on most days while you’re waiting for Judgement to manifest, you’re just maintaining. Know you will have all of the above kinds of days. And the easiest way to get through them is to allow them to be. Allow yourself to feel whatever you need to feel in the moment you feel it. And know that emotions are momentary things. They don’t last forever.
If you find you’re repeating a pattern and you’re waiting for a Judgement so you can understand the root cause of your repeating patterns and how to fix it, I encourage you to remember that life is all about trial and error. Sometimes al we can do is try, try, try again. And when we fail to get up, brush ourselves off and try again. No, it’s not a pat answer. It’s a hard lesson. Sometimes the hardest thing to do when we’ve just eaten pavement and we’re bloody, battered and bruised is to pull ourselves up, dust ourselves off and keep moving forward. The lesson of “never giving up, even in the face of overwhelming odds against us and the bloody gravel we’re spitting out of our mouths after face planting into a gravel road at 175 miles per hour” is a really hard lesson to learn. When you find yourself repeating a pattern, try a different way around the situation. If it doesn’t work, try another. And another. And another. Eventually something will stick, I promise. It may take a good long while, but eventually something will stick. That may be of little comfort to you this week, but it's all I got.
Bottom Line: Waiting for Judgement sucks. And not in the good way either. But when it comes, it’s always kind. Even when it seems cruel, in the grand scheme of things it’s actually kind. It give us an opportunity to learn, grow and evolve. If we’re repeating a pattern and we’re waiting for an answer from the heavens, maybe the answer is just to keep trying. What separates those that are successful from those that are not is those that are successful keep trying. They keep fighting. They keep at it. They dig down deep and find their inner Oprah or Bill Gates or Warren Buffett and keep trying. Eventually something will work. So I encourage you to dig down deep and find YOUR inner Oprah, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett or anyone else you admire and aspire to be like them. Make like the people you admire and keep trying. You can thank me later.

Card: King of Cups
Quick Analysis: The suit of cups in tarot is all about unseen energy. That energy that moves within us and between us that connects us all on a soul level to each other and to the divine. Cups can also mean working with the energy of our emotions. Again, emotions are energy sources that oftentimes cannot be seen but can be measured by how we feel. And while I would caution against making hasty big life decisions based upon our emotions, this interpretation of the card in fact advises us to slow down and consider the cost. Consider the brew we’re concocting and how it will impact not only ourselves but the people around us, including innocents. This interpretation of the King of Cups advises us to use the energy we are creating one slow, deliberate, well thought out step at a time. Finally, whenever a Cups card comes up in a reading I’m always impressed it has something to do with passion and drive and our love for either something or someone. It doesn’t necessarily have to mean romantic love. But it can mean love that drives us and moves us through life.
Depending on the querent’s question, the King of Cups can advise to go with your heart, go with your gut, go with your passion, or it can be a word of encouragement that you’re doing the right thing and to keep at it. It can also be an advisement to go deeper into the meaning of what you may be doing. You may have a drive and a passion about something and that’s a wonderful thing. But maybe you can go a little bit deeper into it. Maybe figure out a way to use your passion for the betterment of humanity. Maybe figure out a way to use your dreams to help others reach their full potential. Or perhaps there’s more study and learning that can be done to deepen your knowledge and appreciation for whatever it is that drives you. There are always more layers to be peeled back on our passion onions!
I know I mentioned this above, but I can’t stress enough that this interpretation of the King of Cups tells us to be slow and deliberate. All too often we see the hands of time ticking. And with each passing moment we feel time slipping away from us. We’re not as young as we were five seconds ago. We’re not as agile as we were a minute ago. We’re not as resilient as we were an hour ago. With that mindset we can sometimes feel as if we’re racing against the clock to get everything done. This interpretation of the King of Cups tells us we have all the time in the world. I learned this truth a long time ago: “Things happen when they’re supposed to happen and not a minute before.” And it’s true. When we feel the fire of passion burning deep within us of course the natural reaction is to go, go, go, do, do, do, now, now, now. Hurry. Time’s a wastin’. But the King of Cups tells us to keep our lives in balance as we pursue what makes us happy. The more time we spend being balanced, the more time we have to appreciate and actually enjoy the moment. Enjoy what we’ve accomplished. Enjoy what “now” has to offer.
As we tune into what the King of Cups means for us this week, I encourage us to connect to and move along with that flowing energy that gets to its destination without rush. I encourage us to resist the temptation to allow our emotions to run out of control. Even in river rapids the water has a destination. It has a purpose. It has a goal. And as crazy and chaotic as it might seem navigating those waters on the outside, on the inside the water is in fact moving deliberately towards its goal. I encourage us to be in control of our passions instead of the other way around. And allow ourselves the joy of experiencing our journey from all sides. From all angles. I encourage us to experience the peace and tranquility “now” can bring, regardless of how raging or tranquil the waters around us may be.
In-Depth Analysis: For the in-depth analysis of this card we’re going to go in a different direction altogether. As you can see with this interpretation of the King of Cups the Moon plays a vital role in the action of the card. The moon is front and center, its rays shining down on the head of the King as he does his work. While Sun energy is usually depicted as energy that is outside us that we can tap into for our own personal growth and evolution, the Moon energy is all about going within.
The truth of the matter is the answers we seek aren’t necessarily found on the outside. Sometimes those answers are inside us. In my work as a psychic I oftentimes tell my clients they already have the answers to their questions. They already know. They just need someone else to corroborate the conclusion they’ve already come to. Many times in my readings people will say to me, “You know I was thinking that exact same thing.” And I always respond, “I don’t have a horse in this race, so that we came to the same conclusion must mean it’s the right thing to do.”
Then there are the “spiritual seekers”. Those that are always on the search for “the truth”. Those that jump from one philosophy to the next, one religion to the next, one guru to the next looking for that “answer” that will make sense of the multi-faceted, complex and sometimes complicated lives we all lead. As these spiritual seekers jump around from one “truth” to the next, some may get burnt out on the entire notion of spirituality as a whole. They may find that no “answer” is ever good enough because no one “answer” answers every question life brings. Therefore they throw the spiritual baby out with the spiritual bath water and may end up spiritually unfulfilled.
Let me be clear here. There is nothing wrong with seeking out “the truth”. I am a lifelong student of spirituality. I love it. I love discovering “truth” in so many different cultures. I love to explore how different people from different times in our planet’s history and different places in the world connect to the divine. It makes me want to know more. Because knowledge for me deepens my own spiritual experience. But I no longer search for “the truth” because the fact is, there is no one correct answer. The “truth” is we’re all just trying to get through life the best way we know how and for some of us spirituality makes that journey a little easier. To be sure there are spiritual “truths” to be discovered and unlocked and applied rationally to our lives. And if applied properly those “truths” can deepen our own spiritual journey. But there’s no one right answer to all of life’s questions.
It’s very X-Files to think the truth is out there. But the truth is the truth is inside us. We don’t need to travel very far to find it. Trusting ourselves and our innate knowing right from wrong is something more people should rely upon. We don’t necessarily need pastors, priests, rabbis, imams, or even psychics to give us spiritual direction. We already know. But trusting that we already know can sometimes be the hard part.
A good place to start is to start listening to what our gut is telling us. Listening to that still small voice inside each of us that longs to be heard. I encourage each of us this week to take five minutes each morning to ask “what should I do about ________?” and then sit in stillness. Sit in quiet for the rest of the five minutes and see what impressions come your way. If the answer doesn’t come right away, don’t worry. We’re just practicing this week. Do this every morning for the rest of the week and see what happens. Write down anything that makes an impression on you during those five minutes. I encourage you to make this a daily ritual even past this week. Eventually with time (remember we have all the time in the world, so don’t try to rush the results) you’ll begin to hear that still small voice and it will tell you the right thing to do. It may not come as an actual vocalized answer to your question, but if practiced eventually at some point during your day you’ll be impressed with the right thing to do. You’ll know what to do and at that point I encourage you to be about the business of doing it. You can thank me later.
Bottom Line: Always go with your heart. Always go with your gut. Neither will steer you wrong. Time is a human construct. Time is an illusion because things always happen right when they’re supposed to and not a moment before. We must always find balance in our lives even amidst the sometimes chaos life can bring. Because only in that balance will we be able to actually live in the moment and enjoy what we’ve done. Finally, the truth oftentimes can be found right inside us. We don’t need to search and search for “the truth” because we ARE the truth. We are born with the innate ability to discern right from wrong. We would be wise to tap into that as often as we can. As we learn to listen to that still small voice inside each of us, we begin to live our own personal truths. And that truth will set us all free.

Card: 10 of Pentacles
Quick Analysis: The 10 of Pentacles in general means wealth and prosperity. It can mean long life, good health, and stability not only for you but for your family as well. When the 10 of Pentacles comes up in a reading, most often the person across from me has worries about how things will turn out. They’ve sometimes put their hearts and soul into a project or a relationship or a business venture or turned their lives around health-wise. But still they wonder how the future will turn out for them. If all that hard work and blood, sweat and tears will pay off for them. The 10 of Pentacles says, “Yes.”
But it even goes deeper than that. The 10 of Pentacles is all about legacy. What we leave behind. The mark we leave on this world, both with ourselves and with our families and the circles of friends, acquaintances and community we will eventually leave behind. The 10 of Pentacles says we not only will have a personal legacy, but that legacy will affect everyone in our personal circle for generations to come.
So it’s important we are conscious about the legacy we leave behind. Yes it is true history has a way of vindicating or vilifying those that have passed on. And once that idea has been implanted firmly enough in the general consciousness it’s hard to change it. But we have the choice nonetheless to dictate how our legacies will play out, at least via the people who know and love us. We all leave a mark. We all leave an impression. There isn’t a person in this world that will leave this world without affecting someone in it for better or worse. We aren’t anonymous. We may not be on tv in film, on stage somewhere or behind a podium somewhere else. The collective consciousness of the world may not know who we are, but I guarantee there is someone who will always remember us. And how they remember us is completely up to us. So I encourage each of us to leave pleasant memories behind for the people who will have to carry on without us long after we’re gone.
In-Depth Analysis: This weekend I was asked to be part of the entertainment for a “Mardi Gras” event. Since the theme was “Mardi Gras” they thought it appropriate to bring in a psychic to tie in with the New Orleans vibe. While there I got to read for several different people. But one person stood out in particular, especially as it relates to the theme for today. I won’t be betraying his confidence or his anonymity by sharing with you part of what I told him.
The 10 of Pentacles happened to come up in his reading. And from his reading I knew he was at the stage in his life where he was thinking about his legacy. What he will leave behind. Most adults who have children automatically have a built in legacy via their children. But this gentleman was different. He’s not married and he doesn’t have nor does he want children. Which makes his legacy a little bit harder to achieve. If he doesn’t have children and he doesn’t even want children, what can he possibly leave behind.
The answer is simple: Love. Regardless of who you are or your particular circumstance in life you can leave behind love. You can make a difference in someone’s life simply by loving them. Regardless of whether or not you have children of your own as living legacies that you were here, you can still love.
In fact, if we’re telling the truth here love is really the ONLY thing we leave behind. Material things can break, be lost or stolen, or sold or given away. Money is only as valuable as what it’s used for. And if you have a finite amount of money when you die, typically that money doesn’t generate more money. There’s really nothing “tangible” in this life that continues to generate after we’re gone. And even if it does, eventually it will be forgotten. Eventually people will move on from it. Eventually it will become a part of history and if given enough time even fade away from the history books.
Love however, is an infinite resource. It’s a resource that was here at the creation of our planet. It was here when the first cells began to divide and multiply. It was here when only animals roamed the earth. It was here when the first human beings gained consciousness. It’s been here all along. And it will be here long after you and I have taken our last breath. So we have a choice in this lifetime to either contribute to the infinite resource of love or block ourselves from that blessing.
Right now I’m reading a little book called “Love Is Letting Go Of Fear” by Gerald Jampolsky, M.D. It’s based on the much larger book, “A Course In Miracles”. Anyway, one of the lessons in the book is “All That I Give Is Given To Myself.” Page 51 of the book says, “To Give is to Receive is the law of Love. Under this law, when we give our Love away to others we gain, and what we give we simultaneously receive. The law of Love is based on abundance; we are completely filled with Love all the time, and our supply is always full and running over. When we give our Love unconditionally to others with no expectations of return, the Love within us extends, expands and joins. So by giving our Love away we increase the Love within is and everyone gains.”
In short, the more we share our love, the more love there is to give. It never runs out.
I will leave you with a quote from the late, great Maya Angelou: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” And that’s the truth. If you’re wondering what your legacy can be, let it be love. Let your legacy be that the world was better off with you having been in it because you brought more love to the planet. You loved without condition. You loved without hesitation. You loved without expecting anything in return. And the more you loved, the more love you had to give. And the more you were loved in return.
Bottom Line: People will remember us. There’s no getting around that truth. We do not go through life alone. We affect the people around us for the better or for the worse. When we pass on we will leave a legacy behind us no mater what. Since that is true (it is) we have a choice on the legacy we leave behind. We have a choice in how people will remember us. I encourage each of us to be remembered by how we made people feel. And let’s do our best to leave a good feeling behind. A peaceful feeling. A loving feeling. Let our legacy be that whomever we touched in this lifetime, we left them better off because for however long they knew us, they were loved. You can thank me later.

Card: King of Wands, Reversed
Quick Analysis: When the King of Wands comes up in a reading it’s all about creativity, drive, purpose, passion and strength. So when this card comes up in the reversed position, it can oftentimes mean someone who is unsatisfied with their current work situation. When that happens I always ask the person, “What’s keeping you in your current job situation?” Usually that question is met with the usual suspect answers: “I have a family.” “I have bills that need to be paid.” “I’m not qualified for anything else.” “I’ve tried finding work elsewhere to no avail.” “I wish I could leave but I could never make as much anywhere else as I am working here.” “I would leave but this place has fantastic health benefits.” Etc., etc., etc.
And then I always ask, “Yeah, but are you happy?” And the answer is pretty much the same, “Well no, but I’ve got (insert one of the above answers here).” So I ask again, “Yeah, but are you happy?” To which they respond, “Well I just said I wasn’t but (insert one of the above answers here.)”
There are a million and one reasons why people stay in situations that make them unhappy. And a lot of those reasons are legitimate. I would never tell someone to leave a situation just because they are unhappy. I would tell someone to leave if they feel unhappy and trapped in their current situation.
So if you are feeling not only unhappy but trapped in your current situation, know you always have a choice. You always have a way out. There’s always a good and positive and life affirming exit you can make that will be of benefit to everyone in the long run. You just have to take that bold and brave first step to not only decide you’re not happy but to also take the steps necessary to change that for yourself. If we find ourselves in such problems, I encourage us all to not only do the right thing for ourselves, but do the right thing for everyone involved.
In-Depth Analysis: As I stated before, there’s a HUGE difference between feeling unhappy in a work situation and feeling trapped in a work situation. Many times when we’re unhappy in our present work situation it’s only because we’re getting through the hard stuff to get to the good stuff on the other side. We’re putting in the hard work, the grunt work, so we can enjoy the rewards for our hard labor on the other side. Many times we’re putting our noses directly on the grindstone so we can sharpen and focus ourselves so we’re better prepared in the long run for the good stuff coming down the pike. We know the hard stuff is only temporary. We know we’re working for the better things that are coming our way. So we power through the hard stuff until the bright dawn of day comes through.
But what if we feel trapped by our current circumstance? What if we can’t see anything more for ourselves? What if we see ourselves living and working and dying in our current job? If we love our job then it’s not a big deal. But if we feel trapped by our current job? That’s a big deal.
When we feel trapped there’s a danger we may begin to act like an animal that’s trapped. When an animal is trapped it has a tendency to lash out. To attack the person that’s trapping it. We as humans may take this a step further and begin to lash out at the people around us, be they part of the reason we’re trapped or not. We can become angry and bitter. Any little thing may set us off. We can become the person everyone walks on eggshells around.
There’s also a danger of completely giving in to our current circumstance. When that happens a piece of our soul dies. The outward manifestation of a soul that’s dead is we become hollow people. We go on auto-pilot. We go through our days existing rather than living. We do what is expected of us, no more and no less. We become automatrons. Robots. The spark of life that was in us departs and we’re left with the roteness and routine of life.
Finally, there’s a tendency to not only break out of our current circumstance but act in completely irrational and irresponsible ways. We may enter into a “mid-life crisis”. We may do things we wouldn’t normally do. Or try things that may not be the best for us. Or decide on changing our lives completely but not in a good and positive way. We swing the pendulum all the way to the other side instead of finding an equilibrium in the middle.
The best way to combat all of this is to see it coming. If you can foresee it coming, you can take preemptive steps to make sure you stave it off. I would encourage you if you are unhappy in your current position to examine if that unhappiness is only temporary while you’re pushing toward something better or if that unhappiness is part and parcel of the job you’re in and isn’t likely to change in the near future, if at all.
If you come to the realization it’s only temporary, start setting timeline goals. They don’t have to be big goals. They can be small goals. As long as they are goals that build upon each other and keep you moving in a forward manner. Once you set those goals, work toward them. Once the date you’ve set has come, take a look at how far you’ve come. If you need a little more time to reach whatever goal you’ve created for yourself, set it. Don’t spend a moment kicking yourself for not meeting it in the time allotted. Just set it out a little further. If you happen to make your goal in the time you’ve set aside for it, see how well you did. Assess your progress. Then set another goal. The idea here is to train yourself to see your life as being in a constant state of forward momentum. Even if the steps are baby in nature, at least you’re moving forward. And that forward momentum should be celebrated.
If on the other hand you see your current situation as a circumstance that will only get you trapped in quicksand, I encourage you to immediately find a way out. Like right now. Better to get while the getting is good than leave when you’re half the person you used to be soul-wise. Better to get out now instead of waiting so long you’ve ruined your personal relationships because of your anger and bitterness towards your job that’s spilled over into your personal life. Better to get out now before you reach a place where you feel like you can’t get out. This is not to scare you. Not at all. This is simply to let you know if you see for yourself your current situation isn’t going to get any better, then why would you stay in that situation?
Bottom Line: Again, if spirituality doesn’t meet the practicality road, there’s no need for that spirituality. If we can’t apply our spiritual evolution to our everyday lives then we’re doing it wrong. So the King of Wands in the Reversed position is telling us we are in danger of getting trapped in our current career. If that’s true for us, then we should do what we can to change our current circumstance. If we are putting elbow grease into our lives in the expectation things will get better, I encourage us to keep grinding it out. But if there is no “better day” in our work situation, we would be wise to do what we can to change our job situation into a better one. It will not only give us peace of mind, it will also save our interpersonal relationships and save us from becoming husks of human beings. Do what’s right for you. You can thank me later.

Card: 3 of Swords
Quick Analysis: The Three of Swords. Heartbreak. Someone this week is going through an incredible heartbreak. And for that I am truly sorry. My heart goes out to you. I hope you find moments of peace in this monumentally difficult time.
Heartbreak is a fact of life. Live long enough and we all experience it to varying degrees. We put our hearts on the line for something and someone and sometimes things just don’t work out. And then we’re left to pick up the pieces not only of a project or relationship, but also our hearts.
And nothing is the same afterwards. After our hearts have mended to the point where we feel we can move on with our lives, there’s still scarring. Our hearts, although sewn back together, show the remains of having gone through that experience. And we enter into what’s known as the “new normal’. “Getting back to normal” is actually a misnomer. Because we can never go back. That’s not the way of our species. For better or worse we’re always moving forward. Progressing. So in fact, whatever “normal” we find ourselves in after time, distance, introspection and forgiveness is brand new. We’re simply not the same people we were before this heartbreak happened.
And I’ll leave the quick analysis on this point: It gets better. I know that has become a tired and overused cliché, but it’s true. I promise it’s true. This pain and hurt we’re going through now will not be our “new normal”. As part of getting to that “new normal” we have to let go of the “old normal”. And that requires grieving and then letting go. The grieving part, which we all should go through, is the part some of us are going through right now. And it sucks. With no technique. It’s horrible. It’s painful. Heartbreak and loss are two of the worst feelings in the world. But dammit, things do get better. I encourage us if we’re going through heartbreak right now to take it moment by moment until we can take it minute by minute until we can take it hour by hour and then day by day. Eventually we’ll get through days and weeks and months easier and easier until our hearts are healed and we enter the “new normal”. But we gotta get through the hard stuff first. And we will! I believe in us! I know we have what it takes to muddle through the lowest of lows until we reach heights we never thought possible! I know we can do it!
In-Depth Analysis: I want to dive a little bit deeper into this card because of the imagery it invokes. As stated above, the 3 of Swords is all about heartbreak. About being so heavily invested into something or someone that when it falls apart so do we. But what I want to focus in on this week is being our own worst critic. Being our own worst everything, and how that can lead to disastrous endings.
No one can hold us to as unattainable of standards and goals as we sometimes hold ourselves. No one can admonish us for falling short of those standards and goals as we can ourselves. No one can beat us up worse psychologically than we can ourselves. In short, no one can hate us as much as we can hate ourselves.
Depression is real. Loneliness is real. Hopelessness and despair are real. There are some of us out there that can’t see the light for all the darkness in our lives. There are some of us for whom despair is a lifelong companion. Some of us today wake up to the same gray, devoid of life dullness that we went to sleep to the night before (if we slept at all).
And for those of us who don’t have this issue, understanding depression can sometimes be difficult. “Why are you so sad? Cheer up!” “You have everything you could ever want in this life. Why are you so down?” “You have a spouse that loves you, children that adore you, a nice home, a good career, and friends you meet for cocktails once a week. Everything is going great! What’s wrong with you?” The truth is, depression has little to do with one’s outside circumstances. Depression has much more to do with one’s state of mind. Changing one’s outside stimuli in an effort to change one’s state of mind is like putting a Band-Aid on a hatchet wound. For a moment it might stop the bleeding, but sooner rather than later the bleeding out continues.
It’s estimated 300 million people worldwide suffer from depression. 800,000 people die from suicide each year. Suicide is the second leading cause of death of young people aged 15 – 29 years old. One person commits suicide every 40 seconds. Imagine that! Every 40 seconds someone takes their own life. Incredible.
Some of us from the outside looking in lead idyllic lives. From the outside looking in we’d would never guess that some of us are leading lives of quiet despair that keep building and building. Which is why when people take their own lives many around them will confess they had no idea they were going through what they were going through. “Why didn’t they come to me? Why didn’t they say something?” Maybe there were warning signs that because of lack of an education about depression and suicide we may have missed. Some of those warning signs include:
- Talking about suicide — for example, making statements such as "I'm going to kill myself," "I wish I were dead" or "I wish I hadn't been born"
- Getting the means to take your own life, such as buying a gun or stockpiling pills
- Withdrawing from social contact and wanting to be left alone
- Having mood swings, such as being emotionally high one day and deeply discouraged the next
- Being preoccupied with death, dying or violence
- Feeling trapped or hopeless about a situation
- Increasing use of alcohol or drugs
- Changing normal routine, including eating or sleeping patterns
- Doing risky or self-destructive things, such as using drugs or driving recklessly
- Giving away belongings or getting affairs in order when there's no other logical explanation for doing this
- Saying goodbye to people as if they won't be seen again
- Developing personality changes or being severely anxious or agitated, particularly when experiencing some of the warning signs listed above
It’s important to note that the warning signs aren’t always obvious and will vary from person to person. Some people will make their intentions clear while others won’t.
“Well if the warning signs on some aren’t obvious, what can I possibly do to help someone who may be contemplating taking their own life?”
There are a few things that can be done.
- Ask. If you see there has been a change in mood or behavior in someone you know, simply asking them if they have been contemplating taking their own life may in fact save their life. Quite often people who are suicidal just need someone to listen to them. Which brings me to the second thing you can do:
- Listen. And when I say listen, I literally mean shut the fuck up and listen. Don’t interrupt. Don’t offer advice. Don’t tell them to “cheer up” or “snap out of it”. Close your mouth, open your ears and listen. Listen for as long as it takes for the person talking to you to talk it out. Then listen some more. This can be the hardest thing in the world for some of us to do. Especially when someone we know and love is telling us they want to end their own lives. We want to DO something, SAY something that will help. But oftentimes the BEST thing we can do is don’t say a word and just listen.
- Be There. For as long as it takes, be there. Be the one person in their world they know will ALWAYS be there. Even after they’ve poured their heart out to you, let them know that you will always, always, ALWAYS be there for them. And then put your money where your mouth is and actually be there for them. Which leads organically into:
- Check In. Call them. Text them. DM them. Let them know you’re thinking about them and ask them if you can check in with them from time to time to make sure they’re okay.
- Help Connect. Help them find local resources, suicide hotlines, therapists, friends, family, anyone they can connect with that have the resources, tools and know-how to effectively help them in the long term. That way they will know they are not alone. And finally,
- Check In. Again. Go through the above steps again. And then again. And then again. And then a thousand times more just to be sure. I cannot stress enough that this is not a one and done kind of a deal. Being able to get them to consider other alternatives other than suicide is literally just the first step in this process. It’s SO important they never feel as if they’re alone. Continually check in with them. Be a friend to them. Take them out to the movies or to another favorite activity. Make your time with them not JUST about suicide, but about truly living.
Bottom Line: I know this week’s reading hasn’t really been about tarot as much as it has been about recognizing depression and suicide as a real thing and doing whatever we can to see the warning signs and be of help in any way we can. But I’ve often said if you can’t take your spiritual life into your mundane life, then what’s the point? If you can’t apply spirituality practically then you’re doing it wrong. As spirits we are called to help each other. Because when we do, we help ourselves. There is after all no dividing line between you and me. We are one. So when we help one we help the whole. And the evolution of the planet is made that much easier. I encourage you to check in with your friends and family. Check in on the ones you love the most. Have one on one time with people. If you are concerned someone might be contemplating suicide, ask them. Even if they’re not, let them know you are there to listen to them whenever they need you. If you say just that, and follow it up by being completely and totally present and aware while you listen to them without judgment, you may just save a life.

Card: 2 of Swords Reversed
Quick Analysis: Out of Balance. When the Two of Swords comes up in a reading it usually means the person I’m sitting across from has an out of balance life. Something within that person’s life is out of whack. It could be money, it could be finance, career, family, physical spiritual or emotional health, or a combination of all those things.
And sometimes because our life is out of balance we can feel like our world is upside down and everything is crashing down around us. And they could very well be. But there’s hope.
When the Two of Swords comes up reversed it could either be a warning that things are about to go topsy-turvy in our lives, or we are in the midst of that particular crisis. If either’s the case, there’s something we can do about it.
During those points in our lives it’s important not to get overwhelmed. When our lives are out of whack it can feel like a daunting endeavor to even try to correct course. There’s just too much. At those times, the Universe gently asks us to stop, take a few breaths and focus in on one thing at a time. Doesn’t matter which thing. When deciding upon the thing that’s out of whack to focus on first, there are no wrong choices here. The Universe just asks us to decide. Pick one. Focus on it and do everything in your power to get that aspect of your life back into balance. Then move on to the next. And the next. And the next. Until one day you’ll discover your life may not be in PERFECT balance, but it’s a helluva lot closer to the goal than it was before.
Remember, a life that’s in balance CAN be done. It CAN be accomplished. YOU can do it! I have faith in you! I’m in your corner cheering you on as you take those positive steps to bring your life back into balance.
In-Depth Analysis: For a moment I’d like to focus in on what the two of swords can mean in the upright position. Yes, it is a card of balance. It’s a card that walks the very fine line between yin and yang. It says everything in our life is exactly as we left it, nothing is moving.
And I’d like to submit that’s part of the problem. When we look at our lives and everything is in place and everything is exactly the way we left it and nothing is imperfect we may get easily lulled into a false sense of security. We may get complacent. We may confuse contentment with complacency. And in most cases that leads to stagnation. Rotting. Crumbling down.
And that’s when the Two of Swords starts to turn into the reverse position. That slow progression from contentment to complacency that could in some cases be years in the making begins to manifest itself in a more aggressive manner, making change something that has to be dealt with on a conscious level. And deal with it we must. For if we do not we run the risk of not stemming the tide soon enough and what could have easily been dealt with before becomes something that takes more time, energy and focus to handle.
So the Two of Swords in the Reverse position is telling us that things in our lives are about to literally be turned upside down and we should prepare for it, or we’re in the midst of that experience and the cause can be traced directly back to our contentment that turned into complacency.
Sometimes the problem can be that long before things begin to start to fall apart, we can see we’ve fallen into a rut. We notice things are the same, never changing, day in and day out. And at first we’re fine with it. It’s comforting on some level to know how your day, week, month, year is going to play out. But eventually for a lot of us that comfort becomes a bed we’re no longer so comfortable laying in. But we don’t exactly know what to do about it. We don’t know how to kickstart our lives. We’re unsure about how best to light a fire underneath ourselves to get our butts in gear. The options can sometimes feel endless.
More often than not the Universe is telling us, “Pick one. Doesn’t matter which one. Pick one. No, there is not a wrong answer here. Just pick.” The Universe is SO much more flexible than we are. It can work with us wherever we are. It can work with us whatever we choose. More often than not there is no wrong answer. There is no wrong path. The Universe will be with us regardless. The Universe is always on our side. All too often we can get caught up with the notion we must make the “right” decision when all the Universe wants us to do is decide something. Doesn’t matter what it is, just make a choice. And whatever we choose the Universe will be right there beside us, working with us as we move forward.
Bottom Line: When the Two of Swords is in the reverse position it means our lives are out of balance. We need to figure out a way to bring our lives back into balance. And once we do figure out a way to not only keep ourselves in balance, but also be cautious to not turn that balance into inattentiveness. That’s a tall order, I know. But it can be done. And the way to do it is to pick something. Anything. Pick a part of your life that you know is out of balance and do what you can to right the ship. The Universe will be there with you to help you along the way. And once the ship is right side up and sailing on peaceful seas once more, we must always stay vigilant that we don’t slip back into that false sense of security. Nor should we fall into ennui about our situation. Because that’s when the Two of Swords starts moving ever so slowly back into the reversed position. Staying balanced in all aspects of our lives is not a one and done proposition. We must make it a habit to check in with ourselves on a regular basis to make sure we’re still growing and evolving as spirits. Contentment doesn’t mean stop. It just means we’re at a state of peace with where we are and where we’re going. Balance means we’re constantly examining our lives to make sure we’re never neglecting any aspect of who we really are. It can be done! The Universe will help us! So let’s get back to balance, shall we?

Invariably they give an answer that’s a variation on the theme, “Too long.” When the Three of Cups comes up in a reading the Universe is saying now’s the time to reconnect with those friends.
Humans are social animals. We crave human interaction. Even the most introverted of us from time to time needs to reach out to other people so as to create a balance. And the only way for those of us who are extroverted the “recharge our batteries” is to be with other people. So yes, humans need people. Whether it be to recharge ourselves or to create a balance in our lives, we cannot go through life alone. It’s simply not healthy.
I love the dolphin element in this card. It’s so spot on. Dolphins remind us life is better when you’re with people you love. Dolphins remind us to be joyous and playful. Dolphins remind us to always keep the lines of communication open. Dolphins remind us there’s safety in numbers and to always have each other’s back. I can think of no better interpretation of this card than through the wonder of dolphins.
So if it’s been too long since you’ve connected with your friends, the Three of Cups is encouraging you to pick up the phone and schedule a night out. It could be one of your friends needs you. Or it could be one of your friends has important news to share. Or it could just be you all need to get out and let your hair down and have some fun! Whatever it is, I encourage you to get with your friends and enjoy yourselves!
In-Depth Analysis: Yesterday I didn’t want to be bothered. I wanted to stay at home alone and enjoy some quiet time alone. I was going to sit and write my Tarot the Week column, watch Spaceballs, maybe take a nap and generally enjoy having no responsibilities to anyone but myself.
Then a friend of mine called me. A friend I hadn’t seen in a few weeks. She said she missed me and wanted to come over and spend some quality time with me. She also wanted to introduce me to her nephew. (Matchmaker, matchmaker…) I politely demurred and said I really wanted to enjoy some alone time. It had nothing to do with her, I wasn’t mad at her in the least. I just didn’t want to have anyone over tonight.
She wasn’t taking no for an answer. She politely insisted they come over and spend some time with me. Finally I gave in and allowed them to come over. I told my friend I didn’t know how long I would be able to host them (I REALLY didn’t want to host anybody) so not to expect to stay over until the wee hours of the morning.
They came over, and wonder of wonders I enjoyed myself. I met her nephew (he seemed nice) and we sat around and laughed and talked and enjoyed each others company. I got to know her nephew and found we had a lot in common with each other. The hours flew by and before we knew it, it was late. So we said our goodbyes, promised not to stay away from each other so long and made indefinite plans to meet again soon.
I tell you that story to make the point we can sometimes inadvertently take our friends and loved ones for granted. Not maliciously or even consciously for that matter. It’s just sometimes we take it for granted our friends and loved ones will always be there. We don’t see each other for weeks or months and decide to pick up the phone and call. Then something distracts us and we’re engaged with that and the million other things that come up in a day.
Suddenly the day is over. We crawl into bed and realize that person we wanted to call never got that call from us. We snatch up the phone and hurriedly dial the numbers or pull up their contact information from our phone. But before we hit the send button we look at the time and decide it’s far too late in the evening for us to call. Then we assure ourselves we’ll call tomorrow. But when tomorrow comes we get busy with the cares and responsibilities of life and end up not calling. We again assure ourselves we will call this person tomorrow. Unfortunately, that tomorrow never comes. And before we know it weeks have passed and we haven’t reached out.
And I get it. It happens all the time. We have the best laid plans, the best intentions. And then life bombards us with things we think are “more important” than reaching out to our friends and loved ones. Those cares and responsibilities have a sneaky way of taking over our entire lives to the point where we barely have any time for anything except putting out daily fires.
But the three of cups reminds us we cannot go through this life alone. Friends and loved ones make life bearable and worthwhile. They lift us up when we need them, and they hold us down when it’s necessary. They’re our shoulder to cry on, the ear that listens to all our secrets, and our back when we need someone to lean on. They’re the family we choose. And that choice needs to be tended to so the lines of communication and the bonds we’ve created don’t get broken down.
Bottom Line: Make sure your friends and loved one don’t forget what you look like. Make sure with all the craziness that life can sometimes give you, you don’t allow yourself to take for granted the amazing friendships you’ve created. Much like dolphins, our friends are there to listen to us, to remind us of joy, to protect us and to teach us the joy of working together towards a common goal. Our chosen family can sometimes be closer to us than the family we’re bonded to via DNA. We would be wise to keep those fires of love and affection going. Tomorrow is never promised to anyone. So if you’ve been meaning to reconnect with someone you’ve lost contact with, there’s no better time than the present. I encourage you to carve out some time to be with your friends and enjoy each other’s company. You can thank me later.

Card: Six Of Cups

Invariably they give an answer that’s a variation on the theme, “Too long.” When the Three of Cups comes up in a reading the Universe is saying now’s the time to reconnect with those friends.
Quick Analysis: The Six of Cups. A card of remembrance. A card of reminiscing. A card of remembering the good times. The easy times. The times when life perhaps wasn’t so difficult. A card that encourages you not only to remember the good times but share those memories with other people. It’s a call to remember “the good old days”.
When this card comes up in a reading it can mean a need to return to that “innocent” way of thinking. That lighter way of thinking. That magical way of thinking. That expansive way of thinking. That way of thinking that knows for certain the world is on our side and we can accomplish anything.
Sometimes we as adults can get caught up in the ‘reality” of life. And sadly that “reality” can sometimes very quickly turn to cynicism. And that cynicism can sometimes lead us down a path of bitterness and sadness. We see the world as dark, foreboding and full of hate. We see the world and all its problems as bigger than us. We see so much pain and hurt and suffering in the world. And that world we envisioned as children, that light, happy place where anything is possible seems like a distant memory. Almost a dream.
But when the Six of Cups comes up in a reading the Universe is encouraging us to take one more look at that childlike way of thinking. That innocent way of thinking. Because that’s closer to the truth of the way the Universe actually works than anything we perceive in the “real world”. So if we feel stuck in a way of thinking that may not be useful and may not serve us well anymore, a return to innocence may be exactly what we need to become more balanced and grounded.
In-Depth Analysis: I’m reading this book called “A Course In Miracles”. Very good book. Very dense book. A definite hard read. It’s 600+ pages and after a few months of reading it for 20 minutes most everyday I’m still only three quarters of the way through it. Regardless, it’s a good book and I’m learning a lot from it. I highly recommend it.
One of the takeaways I’m getting from this book is the idea the world is merely a reflection of who we are. Meaning, we see exactly the kind of world we want to see. And that reality of what we see dictates how we move through the world. It’s individual and unique to each person however certain themes do express themselves over and over again.
One of those themes is “the world is a bad place”. And that reflection is partially confirmed through a 24-hour news media that leads with the stories that bleed the most. The more horrific, the more gruesome, the more deadly and unimaginable the story is, the easier time it will have being the lead story.
That reflection is also partially confirmed by how we interpret what we see in the world in our day to day lives. And once again, those interpretations are as unique and individual as we are. If ten people see the same thing, they’ll have ten different stories of what actually happened. Sure, certain similarities will emerge, but there will be enough differences to show how interpretation is indeed part of the equation.
So if it’s true what we see is merely a reflection of who we are, then what does that say about us? If the world is truly a bad place, what does that make us? If the world is full of hate, avarice, evil, hurt, pain and incredible loss, what does that say for us? Are we what is reflected back at us? Remember, there is no dividing line between “us” and “them” (another lesson drummed in over and over by “A Course In Miracles) and we’re all made of the same divine stuff, what does that say about us? Have we really become what we hate?
There’s an old classic saying from Mahatma Gandhi which says, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” If the world is truly a horrible place, then the change that needs to happen needs to start with each one of us. If we want the world to be kinder, we must be kind. If we want the world to be more loving, we must love. If we want the world to be gentler, we must be gentle. If we want the world to be more inclusive and embracing of all people, then we must be inclusive. We must be embracing.
People often say, “That’s just not the way the world works.” To which I reply, “It’s the way my works.” The truth of the matter is the “world” is not separate from us. We are part and parcel of this world. We are the very fabric of this world. We truly do create our own realities. The problem is somewhere along the way the perception of the way the world is shifted. And we took it for granted that shift was irreversible. And because we accepted that shift was irreversible, that’s what it became. The “real world” is a reflection of that shift in perception. And the lie is it can never be changed.
We in fact CAN change the world. Simply by being what we want to see reflected back at us, over time we change our perceptions. And that change in perception changes the world around us. And that’s good news. Because the problems of the world can sometimes feel so intense we don’t know how we as individuals can possibly “fix” the entire world.
Truth is, the world doesn’t need fixing. The world has spun on its axis and spun around the sun since time immemorial. And long after the last human has left the earth (either by the consequences of our own actions or by Mother Earth finally hitting the “hard reboot” button) the world will continue to spin on its axis and spin around the sun. The world will be fine. It will survive. It doesn’t need fixing.
However, our PERCEPTION of the world in fact DOES need fixing. Furthermore, and here’s where the good news comes in, it CAN be fixed by a simple shift in perception. The world can be a better place. It can be more childlike. It can be more innocent. It can be full of hopes and dreams and magic and wonder and adventure. We just need to change our perception. I encourage us to envision a world not devoid of childlike wonder and imagination. Instead take that as gospel truth and incorporate it into our lives this week.
Bottom Line: There really is no such thing as “the good old days”. The “good old days” are right now. We can turn our perception of the world around. How we perceive the world is a choice. We can choose to make the world a better reflection of ourselves by being our best possible selves. And that includes, if we so choose, a return to a simpler way of thinking. A return to innocence.
Be innocent. See innocence. Change the world through your perception. And thank me later.

Card: Eight of Cups
Quick Analysis: The Eight of Cups is all about going on a journey. Leaving what we know and love behind for something else. But unlike The Fool card which we delved into last week, there is a sense of sadness in this card. We are leaving behind all the things we’ve built up. All the things we’ve invested time, money, blood sweat and tears to accumulate. We’re walking away from it all. And not only are we walking away from it all, we’re walking away from it alone. Oftentimes when this card comes up in a reading the person sitting across from me has either gone through a really bad break up with someone or is about to get divorced. And even if it’s not that, even if it’s just they’re about to start a new chapter in their lives because it’s time, it’s a hard decision to make and it’s a journey they’ll have to complete all on their own. Regardless, when this card comes up leaving the past behind is more likely than not the best route to take. It’s painful. As much as you may have friends and family that support us no matter what, it’s a journey we ultimately have to make alone. Regardless of your circumstance, if you think walking away from all you’ve created is the best solution for everyone involved, I encourage you to follow your instinct and do what’s best for you. It will certainly be hard. There is no easy way to leave behind everything you’ve poured your heart into. But if it’s the right thing to do, I encourage you to do what’s right for you.
In-Depth Analysis: There is a heaviness in the Eight of Cups. As I said above, it’s similar to The Fool card inasmuch as both cards require a modicum of faith to take their respective journeys. But with The Fool card, there’s a lightness and joy about taking those first steps into the unknown. Whereas with the Eight of Cups, there is a sadness that accompanies us. Whenever this card comes up in a reading it breaks my heart because I know that regardless of the journey the person across from me is about to take, whether it is due to a break-up, a divorce, or just starting over because their way of life isn’t working for them anymore, it’s not going to be easy and they’ll have to do it all alone.
The Cups cards are all about emotion. The things we invest in with our heart. The things we are passionate about, and what make us at our core the most happy. In most interpretations of the Eight of Cups the cups are stacked one on top of the other, which signifies an investment in the building of emotions. It denotes a lot of time, thought, planning, and execution to create something long lasting. That’s why very often the Eight of Cups, being the card of journeying alone, can mean a break-up or a divorce. And that saddens me.
As you all are aware, I believe in love. I’m a lover of love. It’s a beautiful thing. And when it happens, I wish for the couple their love lasts forever. But oftentimes two people who love each other very much aren’t necessarily meant to spend the rest of their lives together. People come into our lives for very specific reasons. Either to teach us a life lesson, for us to teach them a life lesson, or a combination of the two. Unfortunately, sometimes when those lessons have been learned, there’s no reason for the two people to be in each other’s lives anymore.
I think the hardest part of a break-up is the beginning. Before the idea of separation even comes into play at all. When one or both parties realize it’s over, but neither are ready yet to say goodbye. I’ve been in that situation a few times in my life and it’s been torture. Knowing I need to say goodbye to the person I’ve invested so much love into but not willing to rip off the Band-Aid and do it because I love him so much. That’s one of the worst feelings in the world.
And of course there comes the time when you’ve had that difficult conversation and have decided it’s in everyone’s best interest that you both move on. Leaving the past behind, leaving everything you’ve built because it can no longer stand firm, and knowing you have to do it alone is one of the hardest things we as humans have to do.
Finally, sometimes when this card comes up in a reading it has nothing to do with a break-up or a divorce. But it still has to do with leaving the past behind and the pain of doing so. It could be the person across from me is starting a new chapter in his or her life. And starting that new chapter is emotionally heavy. It comes with a lot of sacrifice and a lot of burden.
The hope I can extend to everyone who has the Eight of Cups in their reading is that heaviness, that burden is only temporary. Things will get better. The burden will become easier to manage. The pain of having to go it alone will eventually subside. The regret of having to leave it all behind will someday turn into happiness because the future is so much better than the past. So whether you are going through a painful break-up or divorce, or if you’re starting a brand new chapter in your life, just know the pain you feel today, even though it sucks will someday be replaced by joy. And the journey you made alone will put you in a place where if you so choose you can find someone to walk beside you.
Bottom Line: Sometimes the hardest part of starting over is actually making the determination to do so and then following through. And it’s understandable. Typically we’ve spent a long time creating something we thought would last. And when we discover it won’t last quite as long as we anticipated, the pain of having to let go can be overwhelming. But if it’s the right thing to do, it would be in everyone’s best interest if we do the right thing.
And when we do the right thing, as hard as it may be, eventually we will come out the other end. And we’ll be better people for having gone through the process of letting go. Our lives will be better. Our focus will be stronger. Our evolution as spirits will have taken a step forward. So as difficult as leaving something we’ve invested so much into may be, I encourage us to do what’s best for everyone involved sooner rather than later. You can thank me later.

Card: The Fool
Quick Analysis: The Fool card. When The Fool card comes up in a reading it’s oftentimes pointing to a need for you to take a leap of faith. You’re on the precipice of a new adventure. You’re on the edge of a new experience. You’re at the starting line of something that could turn out to be life changing. But for some reason you’re unable to cross that line. Oftentimes it’s because of fear. Fear of the unknown. Fear you can’t see the end from the beginning. And because you can’t see how things not only will turn out but you can’t see all the twists and turns and ups and downs you will need to take to get to the end, you end up being stuck. The Fool card, especially in this interpretation of it says the Universe is on your side. You’ve got angels (stars) all around you. You’ve got the Sun (God energy) at your back. You’re holding onto hope (the flower). And you’ve got your instincts (the dog) at your feet. It doesn’t matter what’s on the other side of that line because you are protected. You are safe and secure. You are going to be just fine. If you’ve been waiting to make that move that will require a leap of faith, this week is the perfect time for you to stop thinking and start doing. If you choose to not do, you’ll always be left with “What if?” or “I should have”. I encourage you not to go through life with any kind of regret attached to your psyche. It’s a horrible state of mind to have to live with for the rest of your life. Now’s the time. Don’t wait any longer. Take that leap of faith. Go on that great adventure!
In-Depth Analysis: When I first started doing tarot many years ago, I hated The Fool card. I used to think, “Well I’m no fool and certainly no one who sits across from me is a fool either.” But the more I studied The Fool card, the more I began to appreciate it.
One of the things I discovered about The Fool card is the look on the Fool’s face. There’s a look of serenity, a look of peace, a look of excitement. He doesn’t care what’s ahead of him because he’s focused on hope (the flower). I love this interpretation of The Fool card because his entire focus is on hope. In other translations of the card he’s holding on to hope, but his focus is on the sky. In this interpretation his focus is squarely on hope, which he holds to the sky in front of him.
What a beautiful interpretation! And what a message! We must always strive to hold onto hope. But not only hold onto it, but bring our focus to one of hope. When we are hopeful, we see light. We see positivity. We see possibilities. We have options. All those things can motivate us to move forward with our lives in a good and positive way. They can give us courage to do things we wouldn’t do because we’re hopeful for a good outcome. They can inspire us to continue to create goals for ourselves and work towards those goals. Hope gives us confidence not only in our own abilities, but confidence that no matter what everything will be okay.
The opposite of hope is despair. When we despair we close in on ourselves. We stop expanding We stop reaching. We curl up into a little ball because that’s what despair requires of us. Despair requires us to stop believing. Despair requires us to doubt everything. To be unsure of everyone and their motives. To question everything we’ve experienced up to this point as being real. It’s more than skepticism. It’s the belief that not only is everything a lie but it’s a malicious lie. A lie that’s been out to get us from the very beginning.
And when we believe that, we quite naturally stop believing in our own abilities. We begin to doubt our own strength. We begin to doubt we have anything of what it takes to survive in this world, let alone thrive. A loss of hope leads us to believe this is the best it can ever possibly be for us. There is nothing else but what we are right now. Some might confuse that with contentment, but understand contentment and hopelessness are two very different things.
There’s always something better. The Fool card encourages us as we take that leap of faith in knowing everything will be okay to hope for something better. As we step into a new beginning we’re not only confident things will turn out alright for us, but we can have hope that in the end our lives will be better. When we choose faith, when we choose hope, when we choose love and light we actively become partners with the Universe in creating not only a better life for ourselves, but a better life for the people around us, which in turn makes the world a better place.
Bottom Line: The essence of The Fool card is faith and hope. We must always hope. And through that hope we can envision a better life for ourselves, for our families, our children, our friends, our community, country and world. We can envision things not only getting better but actually envision us taking steps together to accomplish that goal. We must hope that through good and positive actions we reap the rewards of good and positive results. Without hope, there’s only despair. I encourage us all to look to The Fool card to inspire us to have a little bit more faith and a little more hope in our lives. You can thank me later.

Card: Four of Cups
Quick Analysis: You’re bored. You’re so fucking bored. You’re so bored the very thought of being bored bores you. Life has lost its pizazz. There isn’t a spark left to get you going. You’ve fallen into a routine that’s comfortable for you but doesn’t allow for stretch or growth. You get up, you go through your day on auto-pilot. You come home and decompress by watching tv, but you’re really not into anything that’s on. You retire for the evening and start it all over again the next day. The problem is you’ve become disconnected from the things that make you uniquely you. You’ve disengaged from the things that once brought you the greatest joy. Long ago you walked away from the things you were passionate about and now that you’ve reached a certain age marker you look around and you could give a shit about all the things you’ve accumulated. This card is calling you out for allowing yourself to get in this rut. You have the power to change your circumstance. You have the power to reclaim that which brings you joy and pursue it. You have the power to rediscover your passion in life and make that the new focus of your life. You can do it. You really can. But you need to believe you can. You need to believe it’s not too late. There are blessings upon blessings waiting for you when you decide to live your best life. Now’s the time to claim those blessings as your own.
In-Depth Analysis: Adulting sucks. No really, it sucks. And not in the good way either. And the reason why adulting sucks is because we take on this thing called “responsibility" that seems okay at first but eventually weighs us down. The reason for that is we’ve bought into the myth that we have to let go of the things that make us uniquely us so we can become “adults”. And when we do that, we lose that bit of spark and humanity that makes us unique and different.
When I was a kid I wanted to be a princess. Now I’m a bitter old queen which just goes to show you too can exceed your dreams! No, in all seriousness I wanted to be either a professional diver like Greg Louganis or a marine archaeologist and find the lost city of Atlantis. Or discover a lost city underneath a pile of rubble somewhere. Then as time went on I wanted to be a singer/dancer/actor/waitress/pole dancer. I wanted to live the GLAMOUROUS life! And while those dreams are still in my heart and I revisit each one every once in a while, somewhere along the way I started “adulting”. And those dreams became no more than that: Dreams.
Please don’t get me wrong, I LOVE what I do. I LOVE being a psychic. I LOVE helping people. I LOVE being of good and positive service to others. But I miss music terribly. I miss the stage terribly. I miss trying to dig my way to China from my parents’ back yard. I miss having that innocence and sense of adventure. So every once in a while I revisit those times and sing like no one’s listening, or dance like no one’s watching, or go outside and spend time in nature envisioning what everything must’ve looked like before the encroachment of modern civilization. So I feed that part of me every once in a while so I don’t feel like those parts of me are ever fully neglected.
The problem arises when they actually do become neglected. When they’re allowed to wither away on the vine. When they’re not only put on the back burner but taken off the stove and allowed to cool completely. That’s when something fascinating happens.
When we completely ignore those things that make us unique and special, we slowly become empty inside. We find a job that pays the bills. We make sure our material and physical needs are met and that’s the be all and end all of our existence. We basically put our lives on auto-pilot. We sit back, turn off our minds and allow each day to pass like the last. That can be dangerous.
Boredom can mean we’ve mentally checked out. Life is neither good nor bad, neither happy nor sad. It just is. And while that’s a wonderfully Zen way of going through life, Zen is an intentional lifestyle. No one wakes up in the morning and decides to intentionally be bored. No one wakes up in the morning and decides to make their lives a life of “checking out" (unless it’s for protection purposes). Mentally "checking out” is a really dangerous side effect of chronic boredom.
Why? Because there’s this nasty little thing called middle age. It’s the time in everybody’s life where they’ve reached the halfway point in their existence and they begin to assess what they’ve accomplished so far. Unfortunately, a lot of times the accomplishments aren’t exactly what we anticipated they would be. And that’s when the mid-life crisis happens. That’s when we suddenly feel our own mortality creeping in from all sides and we begin to wonder what it’s all about. We begin to regret the things we wish we would have done 20 years before. There’s a tendency during this time to make major life changes. Some for the better, some not so much. But there’s an intense urgency during this time to either “recapture” our ill spent youth or try desperately to cram everything into the (what we imagine) few remaining years we have left on this planet, with varying degrees of success.
The seeds of all this unfortunately begin when we decide to “adult”. Sometimes being an adult is much heavier than it needs to be. The choices we make today will shape how our future will look. So if we don’t want “adulating" to be heavy, we need to make choices today to intentionally lighten that heaviness in the future.
I know I keep saying it but chronic boredom is a trap. It’s a black hole. It’s quicksand. It builds upon itself like all other emotions do. And the bigger it gets the harder it becomes to break free from it. While it’s great for our mental health to disengage every once in a while to give our minds a break, chronic disengagement is not in the least bit healthy.
I encourage each of us to reconnect with those things that brought us joy and happiness before we decided to "adult”. If there’s any way we can incorporate those things into our lives now I encourage us to do whatever we can to make that a reality.
Bottom Line: I believe Green Day said it best when they said, “When masturbation’s lost its fun you’re fucking lonely.” If you’re so bored you can’t even muster up the energy to give yourself a good pull and poke, that should be a HUGE red flag! Don’t let masturbation lose its pleasure! Get out there and reconnect with your genuine self! You can thank me later!

Card: Wheel of Fortune
Quick Analysis: The Wheel of Fortune in the upright position tells us the Wheel is in our favor. Much like the Judgement card from last week, this week's card is giving us hope that what we've set into motion already is likely to turn out in our favor. But the Wheel of Fortune card is more about taking that chance, rolling the dice, taking that leap of faith and seeing what happens. So if you've been thinking about taking a calculated risk, now might be the time to move from thought to action.
The Wheel of Fortune card is a very auspicious card. It, more than any other card in the deck, is practically begging us to take a chance. To spin the wheel. To roll the dice. I get the feeling there is somebody reading this that really wants to bet on themselves. But for whatever reason, they haven't taken that opportunity. Usually when we don't take opportunities that are staring us in the face is because we secretly (or not so secretly sometimes) fear the outcome of that decision. Now more than ever the Wheel of Fortune card is telling us, "If not now, when?" I encourage each of us to find that mustard seed of faith that we've been promised can move mountains and use it to our advantage.
In-Depth Analysis: Let's talk a little bit about fear and how sometimes giving into fear can prevent us from living the best lives possible. What is fear? Dictionary.com defines fear as a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid. What I'd like to focus on is the imagined threat. An imagined threat can feel just as real as a literal threat. It can have the same conditions, the same responses. Either one feels as terrifying as the other. The problem is, with one of them it's not real.
To be fair, in the middle of the fear it's hard to distinguish between real and imaginary. In the middle of fear, because all fear has that same "fight or flight" aspect to it, to turn that emotion off takes Herculean effort. It takes the strength of a Superman or a Wonder Woman to turn that emotion off. It's next to impossible.
So what's a person supposed to do? Do it anyway.
That's right. Do it anyway. Even though you're scared shitless, do it anyway. Even though you're afraid things won't turn out your way, do it anyway. Even though you're afraid you may lose everything you've worked so hard to attain, do it anyway. Even though it's never been done and people doubt your ability to do it, do it anyway.
Let's be clear here. To do it anyway takes balls. It takes guts. It takes ovaries. It takes courage. But when talking about having courage it's very important to make the distinction that courage is NOT the absence of fear. Ambrose Redmoon said it best when she said, "Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear."
Even though I love superhero movies, (seriously, I LOVE superhero movies. And comic books. And graphic novels. And R.I.P. Saturday morning cartoons) I truly believe they, and all other movies and other media that have a hero's journey in it with a few rare exceptions show courage in a way that's unrealistic. I know that seems like a silly thing to say since by their very nature superhero movies and their ilk are unrealistic, but the point remains. The hero starts out discovering his or her gift, goes balls out with his or her gift, gets his or her ass handed back to them, goes through a dark night of the soul, and then ends the movie by coming out of that dark place and eventually saving the day. But very rarely is the superhero asked after the battle how he or she felt during the battle and the superhero replies "I was shitting bricks!" Usually the fear goes away and resolve and determination takes its place and that's all that's necessary to save the day.
That's a bunch of bull. The truth is even though in really high stakes life or death situations a sense of calm and serenity can overtake a person, that doesn't equate an absence of fear. I've never been in war situations. I've never been in a situation where when it comes to my life it could have literally gone either way. (Well, actually I did have a life or death situation happen to me once when I was a really small kid. But I was FAR too young at the time to have a metaphysical crisis in the middle of it.) But when I hear stories of people who have been in those situations none of them have said that courage negated all the fear inside them. They just, as Ambrose wrote, found something more important than fear.
And that's what I would encourage each of us to do. It takes a lot of time, patience, discipline and hard work to transcend the fear emotion. Most of us will never attain that level of clarity in every situation we find ourselves in. Because of that, it's in our best interest to do it anyway. Regardless of the fear, do it anyway. We can work on that higher level of serenity before, during and after the moment we're doing whatever needs to be done. But we simply cannot put our lives on hold while we work to attain that level of consciousness that doesn't allow for fear. We must take advantage of now because the future is not promised.
Bottom Line: Good News! The Wheel of Fortune is in our favor! Bad News (depending on how you look at it)! We still have to take that chance. We still have to make that move. We still have to take that leap of faith regardless of how frightened we are. And right now the Universe is telling us odds are in our favor. And the Universe knows a thing or two about working the odds. So when the Universe is giving us the go-ahead, as scary as it may seem to take that chance, it would be in our best interest to do so. Take a deep, cleansing "I'm gonna do this anyway. Right now!" kind of a breath. Roll those dice. Spin that wheel. Take that chance and see what happens. You can thank me later.

Card: Judgement
Quick Analysis: The Judgement card. Usually when this card comes up in a reading it means whatever issue the person across from me is facing the judgement will odds on be in their favor. Oftentimes this card has to do with issues surrounding the law and the court system and working our way through it. This card gives hope to people out there going through that process. It gives them hope that even though it may be tough going for a while, sometimes even a long while because the court system is notoriously slow, when it's all said and done the outcome will be in their favor.
So if you're going through the court system, if you're waging a legal battle, I encourage you to keep fighting. Keep doing everything in your power (including keeping all - and I do mean ALL - your paperwork in order) to make sure you have everything a judge could ask for even before the request is made. Make sure you stay on top of everything. And that includes your lawyer. Make sure you're keeping on top of your lawyer and making sure he or she is doing everything they can to get a favorable outcome for you.
Finally, once you've done everything you can possibly do to make sure judgement is in your favor, keep the faith. At some point you'll have to say "I've done all I can do" and allow the justice system to work. And depending on what's on the line, that can be a tough thing to do. But that's the beauty of faith. Once you've done everything you can possibly do, faith allows you to rest in the assurance that since you've done your due diligence the Universe will respond in kind. And no matter what the immediate verdict, faith allows you to believe that everything will be okay. Because it will.
In-Depth Analysis: For our in-depth analysis today we're going to take Judgement into a different direction. Specifically, judgement of other people. We'll analyze how this card can oftentimes reflect a mirror back at us and shine a light on the behaviors we're engaging in.
We sometimes have the tendency to be our own worst critic. No one can cut us off at the knees better than we can ourselves. We sometimes encircle ourselves with, "I'm not good enough. I'm not smart enough. I'm not pretty enough. I'm not (insert whatever thing we can never live up to - at least in our own minds - here) enough. When other people aren't beating us up we sometimes can take to beating ourselves up. And that's heartbreaking.
When the Judgement card comes up and the question (or the core issue at hand) has to do with self-worth, I always advise the people across from me not to be so hard on themselves. I encourage them to treat themselves like they would treat their best friend. If their best friend came to them with the same problem, what would they tell them? What advice would they give? Whatever advice is given I encourage them to apply that advice to themselves.
Life is not easy, that much is true. But life is definitely not as serious as some would make it out to be. And some people take themselves way too seriously. And because they think everything they do has life or death consequences, there's a danger that whatever choice they make will never be up to snuff, at least in their own heads. The more we can understand that life is truly what we make it, the less pressure we put on ourselves for perfection. Because the truth is, nothing on this entire green planet is perfect. There are imperfections even in the most pristine people, objects and circumstances. And the deeper truth is, the perfection lies in the imperfection. Once we internalize that truth and start living it, we not only start living healthier, happier lives, but we also cut ourselves WAY more slack than we used to.
Bottom Line: If you're going through a legal battle, congratulations! Odds are the outcome will be in your favor. Please note I said, "outcome" rather than "verdict" Whatever the verdict is will be secondary to the larger truth that the outcome will be in your favor. Everything will be okay. Because it always is. If you're having a really hard time with carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, please understand you don't have to. There isn't some grand ideal you have to live up to. All you need to do is be the best possible you that you can be. And that "best possible you" isn't dictated by the people around you. It's dictated by your own moral compass. The Joker asks, "Why so serious?" The answer to that question is, "It ain't that serious." You see, all the world is a stage and we are actors in the grandest play ever. But it's all improvised. Which means you get to dictate how your character lives in the play. I encourage you to find what fits for you and go out there and play! You can thank me later.

Card: Ace of Wands
Quick Analysis: The Ace of Wands is all about new beginnings. When it comes up in a reading we know we're at the precipice of a new and exciting journey. And the blessed thing about it is that new beginning is full of possibility. It's full of potential. It's full of growth. And the best part of all? When the Ace of Wands comes up in a reading it points towards success! So YAY!
Usually when the Ace of Wands comes up in a reading it means the person across from me has been itching to try something new. They're either not satisfied in their current occupation, their personal lives have settled into an unsatisfying routine, or old hobbies and passions are starting to nag at them to "Look at me! Look at me! Look at me!" The Ace of Wands is telling me those dissatisfied naggings are closer to the surface than ever before and they're not going to go away anytime soon.
It can also mean the time for personal change (something I discuss in the In-Depth Analysis below) is now. The time for thinking about it has ended and a choice needs to be made immediately. It may be a choice or decision you've put off for a good long while. Well the clock has officially ticked out. Make that decision. And within that decision you'll find success.
In-Depth Analysis: Okay, I really didn't want to be so on the nose with this week's reading. But when the answer is clear, it's clear. Every day is The Circle of Life. We're born in the morning, full of whining, complaining and the overwhelming need to poop. We live our lives throughout the day. If we're wise, hopefully we'll have a chance each day to learn something new. At the end of the day we settle down in front of the television or in front of our computers or in front of our phones and slowly decompress from the day. That's our retirement and our twilight moment. Finally at the end of the evening we crawl into bed and through sleep we experience "death", only to be "reborn" the following morning with an overwhelming desire to poop.
It truly is the circle of life each and every day of our lives. We are born, live and die each and every day. How we choose to live that life we've been given is completely up to us.
As stated above, the Ace of Wands is all about new beginnings. And new beginnings happen every day. We have a choice each day about how we live our lives. We have a choice to consciously make choices that can change the shape of not only our days but our lives. We can make a change in our lives at any time we are drawing in breath and aren't brain dead.
Now I can hear some of you say, "I'm comfortable with the waythings are. I'm afraid if I change it will tear apart the foundation I've created for myself." And I get it. I completely understand the longer we're in a particular lifestyle the harder it is to change that lifestyle. But if it's been on your mind that a positive change needs to occur in your life, it means that you have the time, talent, resources and strength of will to make it happen. If you didn't have any of those things, your spirit wouldn't constantly be nagging you about it. Also, fear of the unknown can keep a lot of people stuck where they are. Some people can be so afraid of the unknown they will tolerate the most squalid spiritual and emotional conditions. They may not be happy, but at least they're not afraid. Even for those people who live comfortable lifestyles, with all the amenities the 21st century can offer dissatisfaction can creep in. Even if you are of a position where you want for nothing and anything you desire is yours, the feeling of being trapped can manifest itself. After all, even if it's a gilded cage we've become accustomed to, it's still a cage.
The Universe is presenting us with a unique opportunity to change how we live our lives. Not only that, but it's all but guaranteeing our success. How wonderful is that? It would be in our best interest to take advantage of the offer the Universe is giving us.
Bottom Line: As long as there is life, there is hope. Not only can we make the choice to start fresh and new each day, but every second of the day is a unique opportunity for a system reset. The time for new beginnings is now. The time to take that leap of faith is now. The time to present the new and improved you on top of a rock in front of all the animals of the Serengeti is now. If not now, when? The past is dead and gone. Tomorrow is not promised. I encourage each of us to take advantage of the gift of the present and start new. You can thank me later.

Card: King of Pentacles
Quick Analysis: When the King of Pentacles comes up in a reading it means you're either suffering the consequences of lifelong actions or reaping the rewards of those choices. Good or bad, the choices we make today dictate how our lives will play out in the future. The King of Pentacles is all about things that have been around for a long time and will continue to manifest for a long time to come. It could mean old money, health issues, family issues or the consequences and rewards for whatever choices we make concerning those issues.
Especially in young people, when they haven't yet reached the pinnacle of success in their careers or family life, I always try to tell them the choices we make today aren't just for today. The consequences and rewards for those actions will continue throughout our lifetimes. So it's important to make right and good choices now, for those actions are like pebbles on the water. The waves they create continue to flow long after the pebble itself has floated to the bottom of the lake. And when the King of Pentacles comes up in a reading it means odds are we're going to be sticking around this mortal plane for a good long while. We won't live fast and die young. In fact, we'll live to be very old. So with that in mind, it's good to make wise choices now so that when we are old and grey we will have set the standard for ourselves long ago for a healthy and happy twilight.
In-Depth Analysis: The good news in all of this is when the King of Pentacles comes up in a reading it means we and our legacy will live on for many, many years. People will remember us and what we contributed long after we are gone. That's wonderful news. Especially for those of us who are getting into our middle-aged years and are beginning to really take a long hard look at the legacy we're leaving behind. And it's good news for those of us who are enjoying the golden twilight years of our lives. As we survey the life we've lived, it's good to know we've made an impact. For those of us who are just starting out as young adults, the King of Pentacles gives us hope that we can change the world. We can create something new, fresh and exciting that will continue to evolve and grow long after we're gone.
The only bit of caution I can give with this is what I've said above. Making good choices now means a happier life down the line. It's important, especially for young people, to sit down and decide what they want their lives to look like 5, 10, 20 years from now. And I'm not necessarily talking just about career choices. I'm talking about friends, family, loved ones, children, lovers, and yes, what you want your career to look like. When we're young we sometimes have a hard time looking that far ahead and making conscious choices we know will affect our lives in the long run. Sometimes it's very Zen to be young. To only think of right now. To be fully and completely in the moment. But the downside to that is the ripple effect we discussed earlier. All the choices we make in life have repercussions. They have rewards and consequences we would never imagine in the here and now.
That's not to say we shouldn't sometimes be spontaneous and throw caution to the wind. If we're constantly worrying about what choices we make today and how that will adversely affect our lives in the future we're not living in the here and now. We're not present. We're not living the Zen life of a millennial. We should sometimes have that extra piece of cake. We should sometimes have that extra cocktail. We should sometimes do something completely spontaneous and outside of our comfort level. We should sometimes allow the worries of tomorrow take care of themselves. A balance should be struck between responsibility and spontaneity. How we find that balance is as individual as we are.
Finally, and I know I say this a lot, as long as there is life there is hope. Regardless of where on the age spectrum of life, if you acknowledge there is an area in your life you need to change, change it. Yes I realize that sometimes is easier said than done. But it can be done. We all have the capacity for change, evolution and growth. That capacity doesn't end when we turn 30. We're not set in stone and immovable after a certain point in our lives. We all have the chance every moment we take oxygen in to change how we move through life. But we have to make the conscious choice to make that change. I pray we all make positive changes to make our lives the best it possibly can be.
Bottom Line: Who wants to be a grumpy old man or a grumpy old lady? I know from the outside looking in the "no fucks to give" attitude a lot of old people have seems so appealing. But why wait until you are 120 years old to live and speak your truth? And why does that truth automatically have to be dripping with cynicism? The choices we make today will dictate our health, happiness and vitality when we are old. If you come across an old person who seems so angry bitter and cynical you can bet the seeds for those character traits were planted long ago. If you come across an old person who has health problems on top of health problems, unless those health problems are a product of genetics and predisposition, you can bet it's because of lifestyle choices they made when they were young. So why not make good choices today? Why not choose to live the best life possible today? That way you set yourself up for a better tomorrow. So go out there and make right choices! Week of October 30th - November 5th, 2017
Card: Six of Wands
Quick Analysis: So what have you been up to, lately? What schemes have you been scheming? What plans have you been concocting? What's cooking in your kitchen? I ask because the Six of Wands is telling me that you're about to be victorious in whatever undertaking you've taken on. And that's SUCH good news! Very often we work and work and work our tails off. We're so caught up and consumed with the everyday workings of the machine we take scant notice when things start to go our way. And if we do notice things are beginning to go our way we internalize that to say "Okay, that just means I gotta work harder. I gotta do more. I gotta keep pushing and grinding because it could all be over tomorrow!" And while that state of mind of keeping your eyes on the grind is a smart move business wise, it's not always the wisest move emotionally. Very often you will hear very successful people say "I wish I'd taken more time to actually enjoy it." That's what the Six of Wands is telling us. To enjoy the successes we have. To not dismiss the good stuff while we work towards the great stuff. So if you are making headway in any corner of your life, I encourage you to go out and celebrate that achievement. Acknowledge and be grateful for the blessings that are beginning to roll in from all your hard work.
In-Depth Analysis: In this portion of the reading I want to talk about something I perceive to be a real problem with some of our psyches. Some of us have been trained not to celebrate the achievements we've received because somehow bringing attention to them diminishes them and will make the "Cosmic Powers That Be" remove that blessing from our lives. If you're feeling that way, that makes you afraid to celebrate your accomplishments because of the consequences of that celebration let me tell you you're missing the mark.
The truth is, the Universe LOVES to give blessings to us. The Universe realizes that life on this mortal coil can sometimes not be the most pleasant of experiences. It can be downright brutal at times. Because of that, the Universe tries its best to grant blessings whenever it can. To make our lives easier. To make living here a little more bearable.
Knowing that, why WOULDN'T the Universe want us to acknowledge the blessings we've received? Especially if those blessings come as a by-product of our own hard work. Why wouldn't the Universe want us to celebrate the blessings we've received? The Universe wants us to celebrate the victories. The Universe wants us to acknowledge not only how hard we've worked but how the Universe has treated us in kind.
With that being said, there's a fine line between being grateful and recognizing when the good things start coming our way and bragging about those things. Being grateful and recognizing when the good stuff happens and being joyous about it comes from the inside out. You can be grateful and happy and joyous about any number of things without the world knowing about it. But bragging requires an audience. Bragging is about other people and what they think about you and how you compare your life to theirs. It's energy that comes from the outside in. Whereas true gratefulness and the joy that comes with it is energy that goes from the inside out.
The other part of being afraid to recognize our accomplishments is the fact that it could all be over tomorrow. Which it could very well be. But if it truly all disappeared tomorrow wouldn't you feel bad you didn't take the time out to enjoy it? Sometimes we're so busy with the minutia of the machine and making sure the machine is well fed we completely forget to enjoy what the machine has produced. To take time out to say with pride bursting forth, "I DID THAT!" There's a balance that needs to be struck. If we're working night and day and not taking time out to survey the work we've done, we're out of balance. The Six of Wands is encouraging us to take the time to celebrate the victories, no matter how big or small they may be.
Bottom Line: You're on the red carpet. You're dressed to the nines. Your hair, makeup, nails, accessories and date for the evening are all on point. The paparazzi is calling your name. Stop thinking about everything that needs to be done. I encourage you to live in this moment. Be fully aware in this moment. Celebrate you accomplishments in this moment. Be joyous and grateful in this moment. Strike a pose. Dance the night away. You've worked hard for this moment. Now go out there and enjoy it! You can thank me later.

Week of October 23rd - October 29th, 2017
Card: Seven of Cups
Quick Analysis: The Seven of Cups. The Illusion card. The card of daydreams and fantasies. When this card comes up in a reading I know the client sitting across from me either has a genetic tendency towards addiction and needs to keep watch against falling into it or is in the throes of some sort of addiction. It can also mean we are presented with too many options and not enough direction, therefore nothing gets done. The Seven of Cups can also mean we hold onto tightly things that aren't permanent and go into a state of crisis when those non-permanent things fade away.
In-Depth Analysis: You know we talk a LOT about addiction in this blog. And that's usually not something I focus on in real life. Yes I have my own set of demons and addictions I have to deal with, as do all of us. But it's not something that is a major focus in my life. But it has become that way in this blog. Which can only mean one of two things. Either I need to start focusing in on and overcoming the addictions that are holding me back from my greatest potential or someone is reading this blog that needs encouragement and hope as they work through their own demons. Either way, it looks like all of us have work to do.
When the Seven of Cups comes up in a reading I can almost guarantee the person across from me is going through an addiction of some kind. And oftentimes that addiction manifests itself through our relationships with each other. Specifically, our love relationships with our partners or would-be partners. Sometimes we can be in love with love and not see the reality of the situation right in front of us.

But the point I want to make from that particular story today is if I'm being completely honest with myself and honest with the situation, I was in love with love. I was operating under the Disney Princess illusion. I was working in the delusion that love would conquer all. Even when Emotionally Unavailable Man told me otherwise. I was fully and wholly in the world of the Seven of Cups. I had forgotten the very sage advice of one Maya Angelou when she said, "When people tell you who they really are, believe them. The first time." Instead I'd taken up residence in the Seven of Cups and there's nothing anyone could have said to me to make any difference in how I felt.
That is, until Emotionally Unavailable Man broke up with me.
At that point I had a choice. I could either work under the delusion he'd eventually see the error of his ways and come crawling back to me or as painful as it was, I could pick up the pieces of my heart, figure out what there was to learn from the situation and move on with life. I chose the latter.
Has it been easy? No. I was so convinced we were supposed to be together I completely ignored what was in front of me. The truth of the matter is we did have a soul connection to each other. And in fact, we were supposed to be together. Just not forever. It's very clear to me now Emotionally Unavailable Man was brought into my life for a very specific purpose. And once that purpose had been fulfilled there was no need for him and me to continue. So in that sense we were supposed to come together. The Universe just needed to plant the seed in both of us very early on so we would really have no choice but to years later come together and fulfill our obligations to each other. Once we did, it was over. But all these months later, there's still a part of me that wishes it would have turned out to be a forever kind of a thing. On my good days I know we weren't really supposed to be together except for that brief period we were together. On my not so good days if he were to show up on my doorstep and ask for a second chance I'd give it to him. I know eventually that feeling will go away. But on my hard days? Let's just say it's more than a little difficult not to reach out to him.
We live in a Disney princess kind of a world. We live in a world where although rom-coms have fallen out of favor on the silver screen, soap operas live and in fact thrive on the small screen. Someone is always either in the pursuit of love, attaining love or fighting to hold onto love. And we are all in. We are invested. We root for and ship for imaginary couples. We mash up their names to create another name for our favorite on screen couples. We go in and go hard for our on screen faves. We buy into the idea of romance. Of kissing in the rain. Of holding boomboxes over our heads while "In Your Eyes" plays and the morning sprinklers come on. Of somehow making potting clay sexy while "Unchained Melody" plays in the background. Of hanging upside down on a web and letting our favorite girl pull our mask down to kiss us. (Also in the rain.) We live in a world of the illusionary concept of "happily ever after." So it's no wonder that same thinking bleeds over into our everyday lives.
Bottom Line: The bottom line is we have a choice to make. It's a very MATRIX kind of a choice. Do we take the blue pill and continue to live in the world of illusion? Or do we take the red pill and wake up to reality. There are rewards and consequences for each choice. But in the long run, which is the better choice? If you're asking me, the red pill is the obvious choice. At least it is on my good days (see above.) Keep in mind illusions by their very nature eventually must fade away because they aren't real. So eventually we'll have no choice but to face reality. So really the only choice here is to either face reality on our own terms or have it thrust upon us when illusion fades away. I encourage each of us to make the right choice for our lives. Take the red pill now and thank me later.

Card: Nine of Wands
Quick Analysis: The Nine of Wands. The Wounded Warrior card. This card denotes a battle that has not only been going on for quite some time, but one that's hard fought and hard won. It also denotes that while there has been a momentary lull in the action and the theater of battle is quiet the battle is far from over. In fact, a sentry (us) has been placed at the home front to guard against any foe that may approach. My heart breaks for the client who's come to see me when this card comes up in their reading. It means they have gone through it. And are continuing to go through it. There may be a momentary respite from the hard life they've led up to this point, but the battle will begin again and rage on.
In-Depth Analysis:
As stated above, when the Nine of Wands comes up in a reading it generally means the person across from me has had an especially difficult time in life. Things haven't gone smoothly for this person, to put it mildly. Everything has been a battle or even worse, a war. To gain even an inch in this thing called life the person across from me has had to fight within an inch of his or her life. And that storyline has continued throughout his or her existence on this mortal plane. Sure, the action may have died down for the moment. But rest assured it will begin again.
And that is so devastatingly sad to me. I mean we all have our good and bad times. We all have baggage we carry with us and karma we have to work through. But be that as it may it sucks that life can sometimes be exceptionally difficult for us.
But there is hope in all this.
The first bit of hope is wrapped up in a cliche' It's a horrible cliche' and doesn't do anything to make anybody feel any better about their current circumstances. But there's a nugget of truth in it. That's why I'm focusing on it for a moment. A variation on the old cliche' goes as follows: "If things are going wrong, you must be doing something right." I know, I know. But bear with me for a moment while I dig a little deeper into it.
The bit of hope in that terrible cliche' is oftentimes when we're going through what feels like an impossible situation it"s because we're either working through a life lesson that MUST be learned this time around, or we're working off a helluva lot of karma. Either way, if we learn our life lesson or we work through our karma, at the end of it we'll never have to go through that set of circumstances ever again. The warrior is still alive. Depending on the visual interpretation of the card, he's either standing at the gate (or in the above interpretation) down on one knee. Regardless, we are still alive. Which means we still have enough energy within us to fight another day. We should take courage in the fact we're still here and we can still fight. It may not seem like it, but if we weren't able to fight anymore we'd be dead. So if you're reading this and still breathing, you still have fight left in you. You may not think so, but I know so.
The second bit of hope is ALSO wrapped up in what has become a tired platitude given to us by good meaning people who, when faced with a difficult situation someone else is going through that has no easy and quick answers, says "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it." 1 Corinthians 10:13. Which again, has never made anyone in the history of this planet feel better. Ever. But if we look a little closer at that Bible verse it does have hope in it.
It really all goes back to the idea that as long as there's life there's hope, regardless of the circumstance. Especially when it seems hopeless and all is lost. As long as we are breathing oxygen and we aren't brain dead in an ICU with no hope of regaining consciousness, there is hope. If you're a person of faith, that hope manifests itself in faith. If you're not a person of faith, that hope probably manifests itself in your belief in the resiliency of humankind. Regardless, what keeps us going day by day is hope. Hope for something better. It's not a state of mind that should ever easily be discarded. Because once we do we allow hopelessness to fill that void. And hopelessness is not a very healthy place to live.
Finally, (and this may go counter to all I've just said but here goes) there's something very Zen and very peaceful in allowing ourselves to fully feel what we're going through. To fully allow ourselves the opportunity to live the human experience. The truth is nothing lasts forever (another platitude that doesn't make anybody feel any better). It's absolutely true. NOTHING lasts forever. And there's a lesson to be learned in every experience we have. But if we aren't completely in the moment, feeling everything we need to feel in that moment, we're missing the point of living. To be completely present in the here and now, grounded in the realization that not only do we have to go through what we're going through but that it will not last forever and we have the stuff within us to weather the storm, there can be a sort of peace that follows that kind of living.
Bottom Line: It's tough being in the middle of a difficult situation. Sometimes life has a way of knocking us around until we're battered, bruised and ready to give up. And because Earth is one of if not THE hardest training grounds in the Universe, by its very nature it's going to be tough going through the human experience. But we've been given an incredible blessing in that we've been given hope. And hope can sometimes be the only thing that keeps us hanging on. We are encouraged to never forget we are warriors. We are strong. We are battle-ready. The fight is long and the brutality is real. But we wouldn't be going through whatever we're going through if we didn't have the right stuff to get through it. That's just fact. So I encourage each of us that are still amongst the land of the living to know we are still here for a reason. We only die when our reason has been fulfilled. So since we are still living, we can, we must, we will fight another day. So grab your armor and let's get out there and fight! You can thank me later.

Card: Queen of Pentacles
Quick Analysis: Queen of Pentacles. The woman who has worked her ass off for what she has. The woman who looks like she has everything. But nobody knows the sacrifice and cost. She has everything she wants. She has everything she needs. And yet, she can't rest on her laurels. She can't relax on her accomplishments. The world is ever changing and evolving. So she must work in order to stay on top. She loves the life she's created for herself. She loves the accoutrements and privileges that come with gaining a certain socio-economic status. She is in good health, good spirits and looks forward to the next challenge she can tackle in this life.
In-Depth Analysis: The Queen of Pentacles advises us to not rest on our laurels or accomplishments. One way to do that, and a way the Queen of Pentacles really connects with is through our creativity. The Queen of Pentacles, more in fact than the King of Pentacles, is all about continuously creating. Whether in large or small ways, finding opportunities to create at every turn is what she encourages us to do.
And when it comes to business and staying competitive in an ever changing world, it's amazing what creativity can open up for us. When we work creatively, we open ourselves up to creativity in all aspects of our lives. We can be working through a problem that has us stumped. After what seems like forever working through that problem with no progress seemingly made, we take a break and work on something else. That "something else" requires us to be creative. As we work on that something else and stretch and use that creative muscle, we oftentimes will discover solutions to other problems we have. Including maybe that problem that has had us stumped forever.
The Queen of Pentacles encourages us to use our creative minds in everything we do. Even if what we do for a living isn't necessarily the most creative field, we can use creativity to our advantage. We can use creativity to keep our minds engaged. Even in the most mind numbingly rote and routine jobs, we can use our imagination to keep us from getting bored. "How?" Use your imagination. Sometimes even daydreaming can help us problem solve. I get that the world we live in doesn't allow for a lot of staring out the window and daydreaming. But the more we can surreptitiously insert that sense of imagination and creativity into our day to day world, the less of a chore our work becomes. Again, I realize that is easier said than done for a lot of us who work the cubicle production driven lifestyle. But the Queen of Pentacles encourages us to at least try.
Finally, it's important we try our best not to judge people in better socio-economic positions than ourselves. We have absolutely no idea what cost they had to pay to get where they are. We have no idea the sacrifices they've made. And even if they were born with the proverbial "silver spoon in their mouths" we don't know what goes on behind closed doors. While it is true money makes a lot of things easier, at the end of the day it truly does not buy happiness. Focusing in on what other people have makes us conversely focus on what we lack. And living in a mental state of lack is not a good place to be. It makes blessings harder to get to us because we're blocking them by our mental state of lack. The Queen of Pentacles encourages us to live in a state of gratitude for what we have. We are truly blessed. And the more we not only realize that truth but are sincerely thankful for it, the more blessings we receive.
Bottom Line: Let's do our best to inject creativity and imagination into our daily lives. Creativity allows us to not only create something out of nothing but it also allows us to more easily problem solve. Finally, let's stop hating on rich people. We have no idea what goes on behind closed doors. We have no idea the price they've paid to get where they are. The more we hate the more we block blessings in our own lives. So let's be grateful for what we have. And let's appreciate where we are right now, with an eye to improve as we live. You can thank me later.

Card: Eight of Wands (Reversed)
Quick Analysis: When the Eight of Swords is in the Upright position it can mean we are stuck in a prison of our own mind. We're trapped by our own thoughts. We're held prisoner by our own emotions. However, when the Eight of Swords is in the Reversed position as it is in this week's reading it means the exact opposite. We're coming out the other end of a long internment in a prison camp of our own design. We're slowly taking off the ties that bind us. We're ever so gently removing the blindfold from our eyes. And with courage and determination we're reclaiming the swords around us to be used not as the frame for our prison, but rather as tools and resources that can be used in our favor.
In-Depth Analysis: When this card is in the Upright position I worry for the client sitting across from me. I worry the person who has sought me out for help has themselves as their worst enemy. I worry that person has always had to fight themselves more than they've ever had to fight outside influences. Our minds are incredible and wondrous things. We've only yet begun to discover the amazing things our minds can do. Conversely our minds, arguably out of self-preservation and training (nature vs nurture), have a way of closing in on us and trapping us where we stand.
So imagine my delight when I'm reading for a client and the Eight of Swords comes up in the Reverse position! I love it. I love giving my clients the good news that they're either coming out of that mindset or will be doing so in short order. It"s a signal for freedom. It's a signal of rebirth. It's a signal of starting fresh. It means the ties that have bound us to one place are beginning to loosen and we have an opportunity to finally break free. How wonderful is that? It's absolutely fantastic that we're finally breaking free from the ties that have kept us immobilized. It can only be a good thing that we've finally had enough of the life we've lived so far and are ready to make a change. It's wonderful that we see how our lives could be and we're ready to take those steps to make it happen.
But of course, all this comes with a couple warnings.
The mind, being as vast and powerful as it is, can be tricky to navigate. Although the mind is built for learning, growth and evolution, that can only come from us taking the necessary steps in order to ensure learning growth and evolution are taking place. Otherwise the mind can only work with what it knows. Which means it's very easy to fall back on past behaviors. It's very easy to slowly but surely fall back into the routine that got us stuck in the first place. It's very easy to slide into old routines because it's all we know. Do we know there's something better out there? Of course. But we have to be ever diligent in discovering and navigating the best way for us to get there. And that takes work.
Speaking of work, this is the last warning. Whenever we decide to tackle a new way of living there's always the honeymoon period. We're doing what we're supposed to be doing. We're excited about the new life we're leading. We're full to overflowing with enthusiasm about how our lives will be different from now on. We wake up every morning with a renewed vim, vigor determination and intent that today will be the best day of our lives. And that works. For a while. Then the honeymoon phase ends and that's where the real work begins.
Unfortunately, once that initial "high on life" period ends it signals an end all together for a lot of people. Suddenly it's not so easy to tackle each day head on. It's not so fun to face the day with positivity and determination. Suddenly the real work of changing our lives has hit us like a ton of bricks and it's, to put it mildly, not a pleasant feeling anymore. This is where a lot of people "fall off the wagon" so to speak. This is where old habits, routines and ways of life start creeping in. Not because they're necessarily any easier than the new way of life we're trying to carve out for ourselves, but because it's more familiar. We know how to do it. We've done it so long it's second nature to us. Not that it's the best thing for us, but we certainly know how it works. And navigating a new life can include trying to figure how things work out for us, which may not be what we thought we signed up for. Once that reality hits, it's very easy to slowly let ourselves slip back into what got us here in the first place.
The problem is, the end of that story takes us back to the prison cell we busted out of. Is that what we really want for ourselves? Is that the kind of life we envision for ourselves? When we think of our best selves, is that person locked in the prison the image that comes to mind? If not, we need to work at it every day. We need to consciously put forth the effort every day to become that best version of ourselves. We need to put in the work. And not for nothing, but we have eight swords at our disposal to help us on our journey. So let's make full use of the resources the Universe presents to us.
Bottom Line: We're beginning to break out of the prison we've created for ourselves. We're beginning to envision a better life for ourselves. We're beginning to want to change old habits and behaviors that may not be in our best interests anymore. We're beginning to see that we in fact have the power to change our life situation. With that in mind we have to make sure we stay on top of our minds to keep them from falling back into old habits and behaviors. When the honeymoon period is over and things begin to get a little bit tougher to navigate, we are encouraged to double down on fighting for something better for ourselves. We know it takes work and we're happy to put in the work every day to make our lives the best they can possibly be. So unloose the ties, tear off the blindfold, grab those swords of the mind and use them to your advantage. You can thank me later.

Card: 10 of Cups (Reversed)
Quick Analysis: There's trouble in paradise. Something is wrong in your immediate family. There's a lack of communication between family members. There's a change in the love dynamic in the home. You and your partner have become roommates who sleep together and occasionally make love. But even that is slowly diminishing. It's more than a couple getting to a comfort level together. It's that people are changing and evolving within your relationship. It's getting to the point where a decision will need to be made sooner rather than later as to where this relationship is going and how you are your partner will be managing it from here on out.
In-Depth Analysis: It always saddens me to see the Ten of Cups in the reversed position in a reading. It means that the happy home you and your partner have created has a very real chance of coming undone. All the hard work, blood, sweat and tears you've put into this partnership is about to unravel. And that always saddens me because I believe in happily ever after.
Usually when this card comes up in a reading it's because the two partners are beginning to drift apart from each other. It's usually not a malicious thing. Very rarely is one person out to hurt the other. It's just that they're starting to grow in different directions thereby creating an emotional chasm within the relationship.
Quite often there's a breakdown in communication. Especially when children are involved. As the years roll by many couples form a sort of communication short hand to deal with the responsibilities of the day. "You do this, I do that, this gets done, everybody ends the day in one piece." And that's the beginning, middle and end of the conversation you and your partner have. Which is understandable. Depending on your schedules and responsibilities outside of the number of kids you have to make sure get through the day in one piece, it becomes easier and easier to shorthand the mundane issues of everyday.
The problem is if we don't take time to not only check in with our partners, but carve out time on a consistent basis to be alone with our partners, we end up spending more and more time apart from our partners. If not physically, certainly emotionally. And that's when we begin to become roommates who sleep together (and occasionally make love.)
I really get the feeling that for some of us this week our relationships have come to a breaking point. We don't talk anymore. We don't connect anymore. We don't know who each other are anymore. So we have a choice to make. Do we continue as we are being roommates who sleep together (and rarely have sex) or do we make the choice to change the dynamic of our relationship in order to save it?
Bottom Line: Because I believe in love, romance, fairytales and happily ever after I always say "save it". I'm going to tell you to make an effort to spend quality time with each other once a week. I'm going to tell you to make an effort to check in with each other every day. I'm going to tell you to take an active interest in your partner's life. I'm going to tell you to do everything in your power to save your partnership. But in the end it's not up to me. It's up to you and your partner to decide for yourselves how you want your relationship to play out from here on out. I hope you make the right decision for you and your relationship. Card: Queen of Wands
Quick Analysis: Strong. Fearless. Determined. Leader. Exudes warmth. Exudes love. Knows things on a deeper spiritual level. Able to create something out of nothing. And further, inspires, encourages and teaches others to do the same. She wants to give the world a big hug and inspire all those around her to change the world. She loves starting new enterprises. She puts creativity and a lot of heart into everything she undertakes. She loves thinking outside the box when problems arise to find a creative way to work with the obstacles presented. In short, a card you want on your side when you're starting something new.
In-Depth Analysis: In the quick analysis above I talked about what any tarot card definition will give you. But in this week's in-depth analysis we're about to embark upon, I'd like to delve a little bit deeper into the card. So let's get to it!
I absolutely LOVE this interpretation of the Queen of Wands. It hews very close to the Rider Waite version of the card (which you can view HERE.) But what makes it different in my eyes is the strength behind the card. When you look at this person you see the strength behind her eyes. You see the determination and focus within her. You can tell she is connected to and fiercely protective of the land. And of course the black cat on her lap seems to exude secret knowledge that aids and assists the Queen with her workings. All in all a very powerful card.
But the other thing I'm getting from this card that may not be as evident is the encouragement this card is giving. The encouragement to love ourselves. The encouragement to accept ourselves as who we really are. To embrace ourselves, warts and all, as a unique gift to the world. There's only one us. And when we use all of ourselves - even the parts that aren't the greatest - we give so much more to the world. And consequently, we move further along the evolutionary pathway.
Now to be clear there are character flaws in each of us. There is baggage we all carry. There are things within each of us we need to work on to make ourselves better spirits when we leave than when we arrived. But what I'm talking about moreso is the tendency we may have to sell ourselves short. I'm too tall. I'm too short. I'm too fat. I'm too skinny. I'm too black. I'm too white. I'm a man. I'm a woman. I'm gay. I'm straight. I'm trans. I'm not smart enough. I'm not cultured enough. I'm not good enough. I've never been good enough. I'll never be good enough.
And that's where we run into issues. We all can suffer from self-doubt to a certain degree from time to time. We can experience the mind-trap of believing the worst in ourselves. That's not the problem. The problem lies in wallowing in self-doubt and criticism. When we stay in a certain mindset for too long we end up getting stuck there. Once we're there it's hard to break free from that particular mindset. And once we're trapped our growth and evolution become trapped as well. And we start sinking into the quicksand.
The Queen of Wands is encouraging us this week to not only accept who we are as we are right now, but to also love ourselves unconditionally. If we love ourselves unconditionally, that love has no choice but to ultimately start to spread out into everything we do. When we take on a new project, we're excited to put our spin on it. We're excited to dive in with both hands (and feet) and use our creativity to make something out of nothing. We're pumped to put our unique spin on everything we do.
And that unconditional love also spreads out to other people as well. We begin to unknowingly inspire others just by our presence alone. We begin to be a light for other people. We begin to make other people feel like, "If he/she can do it, so can I!" We begin to be that beacon of hope for other people who may find themselves in a hopeless kind of a place. When you work from a place of unconditional love that love has no choice but to spread.
Bottom Line: The Queen of Wands is encouraging you to take on a new project with new eyes, new determination, new ideas, new creativity, and new love. The Queen of Wands is encouraging you to use all of the resources around you to make things happen. Finally, the Queen of Wands is encouraging you to love yourself unconditionally. And when you do, put that unconditional love into everything you do. Because once you put that love and light into everything you do, you become a light and inspiration to those around you. So get out there and be creative! Create something out of nothing! Put all the love you can muster into yourself, into your work and into the people around you. You can thank me later.

Card: Three of Pentacles
Quick Analysis: The Three of Pentacles (or in this interpretation, Coins). You've put in work. You've studied. You've practiced. You've perfected. Now you can do what you do in your sleep. It's second nature to you. It's muscle memory. You've become a master in your field. You've carved out a lane for yourself. Sure, others may do what you do but nobody does it quite like you do. That's why people from near and far are beginning to recognize your work and seek out your guidance, your knowledge and expertise. The Three of Coins is speaking to you. It's saying it can only be for your ultimate good to allow this career evolution to happen.
In-Depth Analysis: I love this interpretation of the Three of Coins. In it, we have a gentleman who is hard at work at his craft. He studies everyday. He works everyday. He fine tunes his work everyday. He strives to make it better and better everyday. He's not trying to reinvent the wheel here, but he is trying to make his product more efficient, more capable and more savvy.
And that's what I want to focus in on this week. Whatever career field you've found yourself in that you've become an expert in and people are coming to you for help is an ever changing business. It's very important to stay connected to the changing world around you and how what you do fits into that world.
Very often when we've earned a nice solid business through a lot of blood, sweat and tears there's a temptation to sit back on our laurels. The business machine we're in is chugging along smoothly. We're in a place of power and a place of authority. We know the ins and outs of our business intimately. People seek us out for consultation and to hire us for a specific role in their business. Money no longer is tight. We have a little breathing room when it comes to finances. We have a retirement account. Doesn't have much in it, but we're working on it. Our families are taken care of. No one would blame us if we just allowed the machine to do its work and reap the benefits of our hard earned success.
The problem is the world is constantly changing. Advances in technology have taken us light years from where we were before. Everything is run via computer, the "cloud" (still don't exactly know what that is), smart phones and the internet. It has simultaneously made our lives easier and more difficult. More difficult because it's tough to keep up with the latest changes and trends and apps and software. It can seem like everyday we're being exposed to something new. It's very easy to become overwhelmed with the influx of information we're exposed to on a daily basis.
But in order to stay competitive, in order to stay in the game we have to keep up with the changing times. Having a webpage, a Facebook page, a Twitter account and an Instagram is literally the bottom of the barrel bare minimum of what is necessary to compete in today's world. And in a couple years from now we'll probably need to add a few more items to that list just to barely keep up.
So what to do? Well I encourage you to choose your battles wisely. No one person can know everything about everything. Choose a few items that you have been encouraged to explore to stay competitive and focus in on those things. Again, you don't have to focus on everything. Choose your battles. Choose only a few. And then become an expert at them. Taking them one at a time, study them. Practice them. Know them like the back of your hand. And then implement them. If you're in a position where you can hire someone to take care of the rest, I encourage you to do so. That being said, have at least a working knowledge of what that person is doing. That way should you need to step in at any time you could keep things going until another expert is found.
Bottom Line: Our world is constantly changing. What was true yesterday is no longer true today. We have to keep up and evolve along with our ever changing world. If we want to stay competitive; if we want to hold our position as an expert in our field we have to keep up with ever changing technologies and ever changing attitudes. Having a webpage and a social media presence is just the beginning of what needs to be done to keep up with the world around us. Card: Two of Wands
Quick Analysis: Two of Wands. You're the king of all you survey. You're the queen of the castle. Bow down, bitches! The world is your oyster. You have it, and what you don't have you can easily get. You are adding to your already considerable empire by taking full advantage of the resources available to you. But it can be lonely at the top. Make sure what you're doing isn't affecting your moral compass. Make sure what you're doing isn't harming yourself or anyone else. Make sure at the end of the day you can sleep at night knowing you did the right thing.
In-Depth Analysis: I absolutely LOVE the Two of Wands. This card means that either the person across from me is about to come into some real blessings or is already enjoying the fruits of his or her labors. It means this person is firing on all cylinders. This person is doing the damn thing. This person is seeing good and positive results for all the hard work he or she has put in. It's wonderful news to give to someone.
And let me be clear here. This card speaks more to the truth of being in the flow of the Universe. When we're in the flow of the Universe, things come easier for us. Or I should say, our best laid plans really do come to pass. There's something about being in the flow that makes manifestation easier than when one isn't in the flow. The world literally becomes our oyster. We want something, we get it. We work on something with all our passion and blood sweat and tears and the results are spectacular. So when the two of wands comes up in a reading it means the person sitting across from me is in the flow of the Universe. And again, that's REALLY good news.
The only word of caution I would give to someone who is literally seeing their dreams come true in a real and tangible way right in front of their very eyes is to make sure whatever they're doing, they can sleep at night. You know, the Good Book says, "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? - Mark 8:36. And that's so true. Because the truth of the matter is while it's best to be in the flow of the Universe to achieve the best of the Universe, sometimes finding wealth doesn't require being in the flow. Sometimes wealth and power and prestige can come to those we either don't know about the flow or actively work against the flow, getting all of the above by any means necessary. Problem is, even if they're not having any trouble sleeping now, they will eventually. What goes around comes around eventually. And if we're engaging in shady shenanigans to get what we want, we should realize the bill for that always comes due eventually.
Finally, make sure as your dreams are coming true to keep trusted people by your side. Not people who want nothing more than to sop up the gravy of your train as it passes by. But true friends who have been ride or die in the past and will continue to be ride or die in the future. The more successful you are the harder it can be to discern real people from people who just want you for their own purposes and ends. So it's important to care for and cultivate the relationships you have right now as you're making your way to the top. Those are the people who will be there to not only cheer you on as you climb to dizzying heights, but will also be the people there to support you should you ever have to come down. Remember, not everyone who smiles in your face is your friend. And there are people out there whose literal cosmic job it is to fuck you over. So make sure you keep your close friends to a minimum and keep them close.
Bottom Line: The Two of Wands encourages you to be in the flow of the Universe. the more you're in the flow, the more good things will come your way. Make sure that as you're enjoying the fruits of your hard won labor you're keeping your moral compass true and your actions above board. You don't want to lose your soul to the game. Finally, those people that were ride or die when you were broke are probably the same people who will be ride or die for you now that you're ballin'. Keep those people close. Card: Eight of Swords
Quick Analysis: It's all in our minds. We hold ourselves back. We have resources all around us but refuse to make use of them. Good or bad or somewhere in between, we are who we believe we are. We become what we think about. The Eight of Swords is advising us of all of this. We'd be wise to heed the counsel.
In-Depth Analysis: I have a confession to make. I sabotage myself all the time. Things will be going great. I'll have all my ducks in a row, all my bills paid, all my familial, friend and community commitments taken care of, my spirituality in a Zen place. Then all of a sudden out of nowhere I'll sabotage it. it's true. I do it all the time. And then I cry to the heavens to ask Him/Her/It/Them why. All the while I know the reason why. It's because of me. I do it. I cut myself off at the knees just when things are really starting to cook in the kitchen.
It's part of the reason I procrastinate. It's part of the reason I'll find a million and one things to occupy my time rather than focusing on work. It's why I'll spend 3 hours watching YouTube videos instead of using that time to work. Today I spent the majority of my time sleeping because I felt tired. Not because I had overly exerted myself. But because to face the reality of the sabotage I was beginning to create was too much for me to bear today. So instead I stuck my head in the proverbial sand and slept most of the day.
The Eight of Swords is all about being in our own head. Being blinded by the truth of the matter. Binding ourselves up tight enough where we easily convince ourselves we cannot move. And then to make matters worse we use the swords as a prison to keep us entrapped in our current situation. Through our actions we can cause the "bad weather of the brain" to descend upon us like much rain.
Now before we get any further let me also say depression is a real thing. Mental illness is a real thing. Mental disorders are a real thing. Chemical imbalances in the brain really do happen. And some things can only be helped through the magic of modern medicine. If that is your situation, if you are in a situation where you don't see any other way out other than seeking medical attention, by all means do so. There are medical professionals out there whose jobs it is to help people in those situations. So please seek out the medical attention you need with your head held high knowing you are doing what is necessary to make sure you're living the best life possible.
As for the rest of us, we have work we need to do as well. Because we tend to live in our own minds and our minds can sometimes be a trap for us, we need to do whatever is necessary to make sure we're working to break free from those things that bind us. Honey, therapy is there for a reason. And I'm not saying we all need therapy. But what I am saying is therapy is there for a reason. if you're like me and you sabotage yourself all the time. If you do, there's clearly work that needs to be done. There are deep-seated issues that need to be brought to the light, examined, dealt with and let go of. Sabotaging yourself isn't a healthy way to go through life, and that's putting it mildly. Believe me, I know of what I speak.
Bottom Line: When the Eight of Swords comes up in a reading it means we are easily susceptible to getting trapped in our own minds. We become prisoners of our own thoughts. We become immobilized through fear. We ignore the resources all around us. We blind ourselves to the help we can so easily get if we simply asked for it. Therefore, we end up sabotaging ourselves. We sabotage our relationships, our success and our future because we've made a prison out of our minds.
But there's hope. If we recognize we are doing this, if we recognize we have become our own worst enemies, there are ways for us to get through it. We have resources. There are people, professional people, that want nothing more than to see us live the best life possible. But it's up to us to take that first initial step. If we're able to do that, if we're able to become partners with the Universe in becoming the best possible versions of ourselves, the Universe will respond in kind. It's not going to be easy. Evolution rarely is an easy proposition. But as long as we commit to the long process of working to break free from the chains we placed on ourselves, we will have success. So get out of your own head! Stop sabotaging your life! You can thank me later.

Card: The Hierophant (Reversed)
Quick Analysis: The Hierophant card is a card all about rules. Order. Discipline. When it comes to spirituality he is concerned with the letter of the law. He wants to make sure all those that follow him are also following the letter of the law, for if they are not he's not doing his job. The Hierophant is a card that advises the client to search for answers within the confines of religion. Religion gives structure. And for some, structure equates peace. And even if the client isn't looking for spiritual peace per se, but is still looking for answers for any number of life happenings, looking toward a person who has expertise in that area and can mentor and guide in that area is someone the client would be wise to seek out.
When the Hierophant card is in the reversed position however, it can mean the client hasn't found what he or she has been looking for in outside sources. So it would make sense then for the client to go inward to find the answers for themselves. It might be a good idea to throw out the rules we think we must abide by and create our own rules. If a client of mine was leaning toward that resolution the only caution I'd give him or her is to count the cost of what you may do and thoroughly examine if what you're about to do or are doing is harming you or the people around you.
In-Depth Analysis: Ever since there has been an idea of spirituality in human beings, there's been an idea that there are some people that have access to spiritual knowledge others not only don't have, but can never attain. And when that attitude of "I don't have" came into play, it created a system where we had to seek out spiritual leaders, gurus, priests, priestesses, preachers, rabbis, imams, etc. to give us the spiritual bread we were craving. And that mentality has followed us into the 21st century. Which frankly, is both a good and bad thing.
It's a good thing because there will always be someone out there through time, experience and trial-and-error that knows more than we do about any given subject. And sometimes those same people are all too willing to share what they've learned along the way. That's where mentorship comes into play. And it's a wonderful thing. To be able to sit at the feet of a "master" and get information that otherwise wouldn't be so readily available to you is fantastic. Finding someone like that who also has your best interest at heart and only wants for you to evolve and succeed is a blessing.
It's a bad thing when finding that special someone makes that person a crutch for you. When you become so dependent upon someone else for answers you don't utilize your God-given power of discernment. There are plenty of people that have willingly given up their power of choice and free will to other people for a host of different reasons I won't list. But I will highlight a few:
- It's easier to live a life where you don't have to take responsibility for anything.
- It's easier to walk through life with someone else making all the choices that matter for you. It's like going on autopilot.
- The world is a much easier one to make sense of and navigate when life is only about absolutes. When we don't have to worry about troublesome "gray areas". When we don't have to concern ourselves with thinking about the "in-between areas." our options become a choice between either good or bad, light or dark, white or black. There are nothing but absolutes. And that's a much easier route for some to take. Ultimately it's a cowardly, weak and oftentimes exceedingly dangerous way of walking through life, but it's a choice many people have made and continue to make.
So when the Hierophant card comes up in the reverse position, it can mean to let go of rules, absolutes and cut and dry thinking. It could be time for us to consider the gray areas of life. It may be that we need to start looking inward for the answers to our questions. It could also mean the people we are looking to for the answers to our life questions don't have the answers. So they may give us an answer that doesn't quite satisfy the query. Or even worse they could, even with the best of intentions, lead us down a path that isn't necessarily the right one for us.
So when the Hierophant is reversed the Universe is encouraging us to not adhere so strongly to dogma and religion. As long as we're not harming ourselves or anyone else, the Universe is giving us permission to let go of the rules that don't apply to us anymore. The Universe is acknowledging our desire for growth and for change. And sometimes that growth and change can only manifest through a shaking up of some of our belief systems that don't match who we are or who we'd like to be.
Bottom Line: At the end of the day we only have ourselves (and a higher power, if we believe in such) to answer to. Whether we succeed or fail at life is ultimately our choice. If we choose to give away that privilege to someone else it may not be the best choice for us in the long run. We have every right to run our lives in the way best suited for us. Again, keep in mind there are always rewards and consequences for the choices we make. And it's always a smart idea to make sure the end result of our decision making doesn't harm us or anyone else. We are empowered to make the right choices for ourselves. We don't necessarily need anyone else to point us in the right direction. We have that ability and power already within us. Sometimes all it takes is belief in oneself to know whatever the outcome of the choices we make, everything ultimately will turn out all right. So get out there and make good choices for yourself! Card: Eight of Wands (Reversed)
Quick Analysis: The Eight of Wands is the blessing card. Usually when this card comes up in a reading, the recipient can expect blessings to come knocking at their door any moment. It's usually quick in coming and it's usually more than the recipient ever dreamed possible. When it's in the reverse position however, it can mean blessings are slow to come. It can either be because it's not the right time or not the right circumstances. Or, much like the Four of Cups, it could be because somehow the recipient is blocking the blessings from manifesting in his or her life.
In-Depth Analysis: Whenever cards are in the reverse position, the standard answer always has to do with a slow, stop or delay in manifestation. But when it comes to blessings, there's never a stop in them. Every breath we take is a blessing. Every day we spend on this side of the soil is a blessing. Every day we are able to do routine tasks for ourselves without a thought to them or even how we're going to accomplish them is a blessing. So blessings are never stopped. But they can go unacknowledged. And they can go without reciprocation in the form of passing those blessings onto other people. And that's the focus I want to bring to bear in this week's reading.
There is a great temptation to take our modern 21st century world for granted. We in the Western world have so many blessings. And I'm not talking about just the big stuff. I'm talking about stuff like clean drinking water. Access to education. Access to healthcare. Access to food, transportation. information and communication. I'm not saying our world doesn't have its own unique set of problems, because it does. But what I am saying is we can sometimes take the resources we have available to us for granted. When that happens, it can spill into how much we give to other people.
There's a famous line from the musical: "HELLO DOLLY!" that goes something like "Money, pardon the expression, is like manure. It's not worth a thing unless it's spread around, encouraging young things to grow." And to bastardize that line a little bit, I'd say "Blessings, pardon the expression, are like manure. They're not worth a thing unless they're spread around, encouraging young things to grow." Truer words were never spoken.
As stated above when the Eight of Wands in the reverse position comes up in a reading it most likely means the blessings we're supposed to be receiving are slow coming. When that happens I always look inside to see if there's anything I can do to fix it. Remember, we're partners with the Universe in creating our destiny. How our lives pan out is more a product of the Universe presenting us with a scenario and the consequences and rewards for whatever choice we make concerning that scenario. (More on that little nugget in another reading.) So since we are partners with the Universe in creating our own destiny, I immediately look to myself to see if there's anything I am doing to put a kink in the flow of blessings coming my way. Nine times out of ten it's because I'm not paying those blessings forward.
So I have to ask if you can tell there's a knot in the flow of blessings coming your way? If so, how generous have you been lately? And I'm not just talking about money. I'm talking about time and resources as well. How giving have you been lately to people in need? And I'm not just talking about our friends, family and loved ones. I'm talking about extending yourself to help someone who wouldn't receive help if you didn't provide it. If not, why not? I encourage you to be honest with yourself as you answer that question. There are no wrong answers. There's only the truth. So if you haven't been paying your blessings forward on a consistent and conscientious way, why? Once you answer that question, you can then answer the question, "Can you do anything to rectify that situation?" If so, I encourage you to do whatever it takes to right the ship.
And by the way, righting the ship doesn't necessarily mean you have to go big or go home. Of course, if you feel like going big, do so. But if you can't you should never feel like you're not proving your worth to the Universe. You don't have to make a big production or a big splash to prove to the Universe you're paying your blessings forward. We all have gifts. (Yes, we do!) We all have talents. (YES, WE DO!) We all have something that's unique about us that no one can quite duplicate. (STOP IT! YES, WE DO! ALL OF US, INCLUDING YOU!) So whatever it is that you like doing, or whatever gift or talent you have, put it to good use making a difference in someone else's life. Once you do you'll be amazed at how much the blessings are returned to you.
Bottom Line: We are partners with the Universe in our spiritual evolution. We are not passive participants in this thing called life. Through our choices, we create the life we have. Therefore, if blessings aren't flowing the way we think they should flow, the first questions shouldn't be outward, they should be inward. How thankful am I for the blessings I've received? Moreover, how much have I paid those blessings forward? How have I put to use my natural born gifts and talents to make life easier for someone else? When we begin to consciously pay those blessings forward, the Universe opens the floodgates. We become so blessed we have no choice but to spread those blessings around like manure. So get to work blessing other people! You can thank me later.

Week of July 24th - July 30th, 2017
Card: Temperance (Reversed)
Quick Analysis: The Temperance card is exactly what it sounds like. Living a temperate lifestyle. Where you're not dragging too far one way or another. Where you're not living your life in a way that is obsessed in one area of your life to the neglect of other just as valuable areas of your life. However, when the Temperance card is in the reversed position, it can mean you're living a life out of balance. Where your time, energy, and resources are focused in on one area of your life to the point where other areas of your life begin to suffer for it. If you are feeling imbalanced in any way in any area of your life, now may be a good time to look into way you can bring yourself back into alignment, back into balance and back into a more temperate way of living.
In-Depth Analysis: I get it. If we're adults we are more than likely being pulled in a million different directions. Family, friends, loved ones and our greater community have a tendency to want to corner the market on all our time. And for good reason. Our kids really do need us. Our partners do as well. Our extended family needs our specific skill set from time to time to keep the family afloat. And depending upon our specific family dynamics, more may be required from us than others. Our jobs and careers demand a huge portion of our daily time and energy resources. And of course there's the greater local community that is desperate for volunteers at any time to do any kind of work. And if we prove ourselves eager, excited, proactive and hard working the more the people in charge will see us as invaluable to the process. So I get it. There's a bunch of stuff (and most of it is just "stuff") that calls out for our attention on a daily basis.
The problem arises when we become so invested in helping we spread ourselves too thin. If were constantly accepting responsibilities others are handing out to us, eventually we won't have the energy to fulfilled what is required of us.
Which leads me to my next question: Who said the entire weight of the world is our responsibility to take on individually? Who said we must say yes to everything that is asked of us? Who said we should automatically acquiesce to the whims and demands of other people? Especially when said people are more than capable of doing for themselves?
One of the most powerful words in the English language is a firm and hearty "no". It's so powerful in fact, it's discouraged from use on a consistent basis. We're told it's rude to say no. It's self-absorbed to say no. It's selfish and shallow to say no. And with good reason. Most people don't want to be told no. Most people want things done their way and on their timetable. And all "no" does is puts a kink in the flow and operation. Who wants that?
But once we realize the power of the word no and how its proper use can free us from a lot of responsibility that isn't ours to take on in the first place, it's amazing what it can do. It's so powerful people are afraid of it for the reasons outlined above. So if the reason you're out of balance is because you haven't mastered the power of no quite yet, I encourage you to put it into practice. And once you can control the power of no, it's INCREDIBLE the power you'll wield.
Finally, I do want to take a moment to talk about a life that's out of balance not because of outside responsibilities, but because of personal choices. It's estimated that each day the average adult makes 35,000 conscious choices. 35,000!!! There are 1,440 minutes in each day. That means we make on average 24 choices per minute, which adds up to roughly one choice every 2 ½ seconds. From the moment we wake up to the moment we lose consciousness for the night were making choices. To be sure, most of these choices we make are by rote. We do them the same way, everyday. They've become so rote as to become part of our muscle memory. But be that as it may, that's still a helluva lot of decisions to make in one day.
So if our lives are out of balance and the reasons are because of the choices we've made and continue to make, it might be a good time to reevaluate how we're living our lives. Socrates (really smart, really old guy - GOOGLE HIM!) once said, "An unexamined life is not worth living." And he was right. Regardless if our lives are imbalanced or not, if we're not constantly examining our lives to see how best we can improve it, we're doing a disservice to our spiritual evolution.
That takes some hard work. Especially getting down to the root causes of why we do the things we do. That's some serious shit. But it's required of us if we want to be about the business of evolving. If our lives are out of balance in any way, our best bet is to examine the root causes of the choices we make, find some sort of healing and resolution to those reasons and then creating a plan of action to replace those old bad behaviors with newer, more positive ones.
Bottom Line: If the reason our lives are out of balance is because of outside influences, there's nothing wrong with putting ourselves first. And learn the power of no. It will change your life! And if our lives are out of balance because of the choices we make, every minute is a minute to change course. We are not destined for a future dictated by the actions of our past. We have an opportunity to change the face of our future every day we draw breath. I encourage us all to use that time wisely. You can thank me later.
